ALICE QUESNEL

WEYBRIDGE— Alice (Hayes) Quesnel, 90, died peacefully Sunday, July 25, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family.

    Born in Brandon March 26, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Walter R., Sr. and Florence (Bashaw) Hayes.  

    Alice was a graduate of Brandon High School, class of 1938 and attended Rutland Business College.  She was employed at the former Vermont Drug Inc. (Rexall Stores) in both Brandon and Middlebury from 1938 through 1952.  She later worked at Middlebury College in the accounting office for 20 years.  

    She married Noe J. Quesnel on November 26, 1951.  He predeceased her on February 15, 1987.  

    Surviving family members include one son, Michael R. Quesnel of Weybridge; two daughters, Denise A. Heath and her husband David of Bristol and Louise V. Quesnel of Weybridge; three grandchildren; one great granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Duane (Elenita) Jennings of Brandon; by her sister-in-law Alice Charlebois, of Burlington and many nieces and nephews.  

    She was also predeceased by a sister, Patricia (Hayes) Martin in 1974 and two brothers, Thomas W. Hayes in 1940 and Walter R. Hayes, Jr. in 1993.  

    There will be no calling hours.

    A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Wednesday, July 28th at St. Mary’s Church with the Rev. William R. Beaudin, pastor, as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary’ Cemetery, Middlebury..

    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Addison County Home Healthcare and Hospice, Inc., P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.

    Arrangements are under the direction of Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 S. Main St., Middlebury.  

Kathy Cormier Hurlburt

 

SALISBURY— Kathy Cormier Hurlburt, age 75, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at her home in Salisbury.

    Mrs. Hurlburt was born in Middlebury on August 10, 1934. She was the daughter of Shirley and Beatrice (Dutton) Ovitt. She received her education in local East Middlebury Schools. She had worked many years at Tops Restaurant in Middlebury. She had been employed for more that 45 years for Mrs. Patti Brakeley and for numerous years for Victoria Sappio. She was a member of the Middlebury V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed time with her friends and travelling with her husband. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

    She is survived by her husband Earl A. Hurlburt, Sr., of Salisbury; whom she married Dec. 13, 1952 in Brandon; 2 sons Earl A. Hurlburt, Jr of Middlebury and James “Jim” Hurlburt and his wife Lisa of Bluffton, SC, 3 daughters; Laura Bougor and her husband Larry of Middlebury, Norma Leduc and her husband Marcel of Ripton and Debra Hurlburt and her husband Russ Lawton of Salisbury, a sister Irene Piper and her husband Cliff of Middlebury. 12 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her. She was predeceased by a brother Herbert Ovitt and a sister Barbara Piper.

    The memorial service “In Celebration of Her Life” was held on Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Salisbury Congregational Church. The Rev. John Grivetti, Pastor will officiate. The graveside committal service and burial followed in the family lot, at West Salisbury Cemetery.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Addison County Home Health and Hospice, P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753 or to The Addison County Humane Society, 236 Boardman Street, Middlebury, VT 05753.

     Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Elizabeth Anne Thomas

BRANDON— Elizabeth Anne Thomas, age 81, died Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

    Mrs. Thomas was born in New York City on February 4, 1929. She was the daughter of Herbert and Anna (Standfast) Karlebach. She grew up Chappaqua, NY. She was graduated from Horace Greeley High School and afterwards received her degree from Katherine Gibbs College. In her earlier years she was employed by Readers Digest. She moved with her family to Brandon in 1946. She had worked at the Ayrshire Breeders Association in Brandon and later joined the staff at Crosby Insurance Agency. She worked for several years as a Medical Transcriptionist for Dr. William Barrett. She was a former member of the Brandon Garden Club. She belonged to The Brandon Congregational Church, where she had served on the Board of Diaconate. She enjoyed piano and organ music. She was very proud of the fact that she was a direct descendant of Alexander Hamilton.

    Surviving is her husband Kenneth C. Thomas of Brandon; whom she married on May 23, 1948 in Rutland, 1 daughter Dale Bastian of Weybridge, 3 sons Kirk Thomas of Brandon, David Thomas of Bloomsbury, NJ and Doug Thomas of Loveland, OH, 1 brother Herbert “Buddy” Karlebach of Bandon, OR. 7 grandchildren and a niece also survive her.

    The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at 10 AM, at the Brandon Congregational Church. The Rev. Richard White, pastor will officiate. A private graveside committal service and burial will follow, in the family lot, at Pine Hill Cemetery.

    Following the ceremony the family will receive friends at the Brandon Inn for a time of fellowship & remembrance.
