Anne H. Palmer

Vergennes - Anne H. Palmer 94 passed away Sunday June 27, 2010 at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

    She was born May 13, 1917 in Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of William and Anna (Schartzer) Horner.

    She was a member of St. Paul’s Church in Vergennes, and she was a choir member and a member of the Alter Guild. Anne was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. While in Boston she rode the train to and from work daily. She loved to go to the opera and Boston Pops. She also loved to shop and was every inch a lady.

    Anne is survived by a niece Judy Langeway and husband Alan, a nephew Jack DeVine and wife Gloria, a dear friend Betsy Bathalon and several more nieces and nephews. Anne was a legal secretary in the Prudential Building in Boston for many years after attending business school in Boston.

    Anne was predeceased by her sister Millie Horner, her husband L. Otis Palmer, her brother William Horner and sister-in-law Addie Horner.

    A memorial service was held on Thursday July 1st at St. Paul’s Church in Vergennes. Interment will be in Gage Cemetery in Ferrisburgh. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St Paul’s Church, 6 Park St. Vergennes, VT 05491.

Susan Ellen Margaret Goodnow

BRANDON - Susan Ellen Margaret Goodnow, age 102, died Tuesday June 29, 2010, at her home where she has resided for the past 63 years; under the care of her grandchildren, Margaret Lonergan, Steven Berry and Denise Berry.

   Mrs. Goodnow was born in Haddam, CT on January 22, 1908. She was the daughter of Daniel and Harriette (Ames) Duffy. She married Earl Goodnow in 1926 and moved to Vermont in 1927. She had worked at Goodnow’s Orchards and Turkey farm in Brandon for over 20 years. She had also worked at the Brandon Training School for several years before joining the staff at Shapiro’s Department Store in Brandon for 30 years. She belonged to the Kings Daughters of the Catholic Church and taught bible study in her earlier years.

   Surviving family include her daughter, Harriet Harris of Gales Ferry, CT., Cousins Grace Blish of Hebron, CT, 3 half sisters Anna Walsh of New Ipswich, NH., Prudence Tilton of Reading, NJ., and Ellen Belveau of Jackson City, KS. 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive her.

   She was predeceased by her husband Earl Goodnow in 1975, son Wallace Goodnow in 1997, daughter Barbara Berry in 2004, 2 grandsons Paul Steven Goodnow in 1984 and Wallace Goodnow in 1981, 2 half brothers Daniel Duffy in 2001 and Ralph Duffy in 1942 and a half sister Irene Burchstead in 2009.

   The funeral service was held on Friday, July 2, 20101 at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. Richard White, Pastor of the Brandon Congregational Church officiated. The graveside committal service and burial followed, in the family lot, at Pine Hill Cemetery.
