Linda T. Atkins

Ferrisburgh - Linda T. Atkins 67 of Ferrisburgh died at home Saturday evening June 20th, surrounded by her family after a brief and stoic battle with cancer.

    Linda was the daughter of Rupert L and Julia (Larrow) Thorpe.

    She resided for most of her life at the Thorpe Homestead on the crossroad (“one word”). A vast amount of Ferrisburgh history was lost with her. She loved observing all wildlife especially birds. She worked for many years at Simmonds and for many years as the asst. Manager of Antiques at Kennedy Bros. Linda was the driving force behind the huge success of that dept. She was the reason people came back time and again from all over the world, they wanted to deal exclusively with her as she remembered all of her customer names and their interests. Linda was beloved and respected by all unless you did not want to hear the truth and then she was still loved and respected.

    Linda is survived by her son Patrick and wife Christine and son Dan of Auburn, ME, her daughter Lisa of Ferrisburgh, two cherished grandsons Christopher and J.T. and a great granddaughter Anna-Sophia, a very special brother in law Arland Atkins. Seven exceptional special nieces and nephews, Candie Atkins and fiancé Dudley, Carlene Atkins and fiancé Bruce, Eldon Atkins and wife Pauline and her mother May, John Atkins and wife Sue and family, Sarah, Josh, and Arthur Rossetti. Dear cousins Sandra Anderson, Dave Carlson, and Trevor.

    Linda had so very many special friends whom loved her dearly, Margaret Sears, Sylvia LeClair, Fred and Donna Humiston, Bruce Peck and far too many more to list but were no less special to her. Linda was predeceased by her parents, her brother George, her husband Hubert, and brother in law Rollin and her son in law Rick Stockwell. She also left her beloved cats Whizzie and Bobbie.

    A graveside service was held on Wednesday June 23rd at North Ferrisburgh Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor the Addison County Home Health & Hospice PO Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753, for which the family is deeply grateful for particularly Tim and Marsha. The family would like to thank GMNH for the wonderful care she received there and also VCCM staff especially Margaret, Bill and Shelly.

Albert Edward Greene

LEICESTER - Albert Edward Greene, age 65, died Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington.

    Mr. Greene was born in Rutland on March 28, 1945. He was the son of Albert and Grace (Slater) Greene. He grew up in Orwell and received his education at Shoreham High School. He was a Viet Nam Veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Vermont and work at Champlain Construction for several years before joining the staff at Middlebury College, in the Grounds Department. He was forced to retire in 1983 due to failing health. He was a member of Middlebury American Legion and Middlebury Veterans of Foreign Wars.

    His surviving family include; Amy Greene of Leicester, whom he married November 29, 1969, 1 son Bryan Greene and his wife Stasha of Leicester, a sister Shirley Giard of Bridport. Several nieces, nephews, cousins & brother & sisters-in-laws also survive him.

    The graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, will take place, on Thursday, July 1, 2010 at 10:00 AM, at the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Randolph.

    Friends may call at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 from 6-8 PM; where the Rev. Richard White, Pastor of The Brandon Congregational Church will conduct the funeral ceremony at 7:30 PM.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory to; Addison County Humane Society, 234 Boardman Street, Middlebury, VT 05753.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Nona Jean Carpenter

Monkton-Nona Jean Carpenter, 81, of Monkton passed away peacefully on June 25, 2010 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family. Nona was born in Burlington, VT on April 14, 1929, the daughter of Harold and Gladys (Stokes) Hallock. She grew up on the family farm in Starksboro, practicing her mothering skills on her two younger brothers. She married Paul F. Carpenter on August 21, 1946, moving to his farm in Huntington. She loved the farming life and preparing meals for her family, friends and the farmhands in the huge kitchen of that old brick farmhouse. The more the merrier was her motto. She carried this love and philosophy throughout her life.

    Living on farms taught her the value of hard work and an honest community. Following the move away from this farm, her favorite jobs were those where she could care for and feed others. Her memories of the days spent in the kitchen of the former Squirrel's Nest Restaurant in Bristol were among her favorite from her years in the workforce For the past decade, Nona lived with her daughter Denise Dalton and her husband Chris Paine, helping to lovingly raise their daughters and "her little girls", Layla and Olivia. Nona is also survived by her son, Lloyd and his wife Kathy of Claremont, NH, her daughter Cheryl Pileggi and her husband Fred Lowen of Hinesburg, her brother Scott Hallock and his wife Carolyn of Jericho, her sister-in-law Lorraine Hallock of Bristol, her grandchildren: Gretchen, Nicholas, Morgan, Keegan, Sonia, Layla and Olivia, many nieces, nephews and their families.

    Nona is predeceased by her husband Paul, her brother Paul, her son Eric, and her grandson Christopher.

    Calling hours will be held at Brown McClay Funeral Home in Bristol on Monday June 28th from 5 -8 pm. Funeral Services will be held at Brown McClay Funeral Home in Bristol on  Tuesday June 29th at 11 am. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol.

    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Nona to Addison County Home Health and Hospice, PO Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753 or Bristol Rescue Squad, PO Box 227, Bristol, VT 05443.
