ROSEMARY (PROVENCHER) PETERSEN

MIDDLEBURY – Rosemary (Provencher) Petersen, 77, a longtime resident of Middlebury, VT died suddenly on Saturday morning, June 5, 2010 at Shard Villa in Salisbury, VT. Rosemary was born on December 17, 1932, the daughter of Oscar and Elizabeth Provencher. She attended Plainville (CT) High School, graduating in 1950, where she was known for her outstanding singing voice. From 1953-1960 she served as Plainville’s assistant town clerk. She was married to Max Petersen on July 4, 1959. In 1962 the couple moved to Middlebury. Rosemary loved to sing and listen to music of all kinds, dancing, bird watching, the lilacs and peonies in the back yard, dogs and cats, reading murder mysteries, margaritas, and good meals with family and friends. Rosemary is survived by her loving husband Max, her daughter Karen Petersen and husband Kurt Plank of North Ferrisburgh; her sister Mary Provencher of Plainville, CT; brother Robert and sister-in-law Charlotte of West Hartford, CT; brother Jerry of Bradenton, FL; brother-in-law James Petersen of Salisbury; sister-in-law Jacqueline English of Wilder; sister-in-law Helen Aulis and husband Ralph of White River Junction; granddaughter Phoebe Plank; several nieces and nephews. She had very special relationships with her nephew Mark Petersen of Salisbury and her dear friends Lori Walker and Mildred Denney. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Oscar Provencher, sister-in-law Margaret Provencher, brother-in-law Larry English, and nephew James Petersen. The family wishes to express its gratitude for the gentle and loving care she received while residing at Shard Villa during the last three months.  

    Graveside service was held on Wednesday June 9, 2010 in Holman Cemetery in Salisbury, VT. The Rev. William Beaudin officiated.

    Gifts in Rosemary’s memory may be made to Shard Villa, 1177 Shard Villa Road, Salisbury, VT 05769 or the Addison County Humane Society, 236 Boardman Street, Middlebury, VT 05753.

Anna P Berry

Monkton -  Anna P Berry died June 1, 2010 at the home of her granddaughter Jes Berry in Monkton, VT. Anna suffered a stroke May 23, 2010 and with her other ailments was not able to recover.

    Anna was born July 1, 1930 in Holworth, NJ the daughter of James and Julia Keating.

    She graduated from Oxford Academy in June 1949. Anna worked as a clerk for the C&U Telephone Co. in Norwich, NY from 1949 to 1951. Anna P Keating married her husband Charles Berry August 19, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Church in Oxford. In 1951, Anna went to Castle Air Force Base to be with her husband during the Korean War. Her first born son James Berry was born at Castle A. F. Base in November 1953. Anna worked as a clerk for the Merced County Arrogation District from 1951 to 1953. Anna and her husband returned to Norwich, NY in 1955. Her second son Charles III “Chuck” was born in October 1958. She moved to Bristol, VT in 1967 with her husband and two sons. Anna helped Father Provo with organizing the old St. Ambrose Records in 1968. She attended Champlain College to study for Library Science for two years. Anna accepted a position with Middlebury College Library to be in charge of converting the library from the Dewey Decimal System to The Library of Congress System form 1968 to 1977.

    In the late 1970’s and early 1980’s she was in charge of St. Joseph the Provider College Library in Rutland, the head librarian Sister Monica had a heart attack. When Sister Monica returned she volunteered her time to help run the library.

    Tragedy entered her life when her youngest son “Chuck” was killed in a car accident in Brandon, VT in 1980. Tragedy struck again when her oldest and last child James was killed in a car accident in 1983.

    Anna had a severe lung infection while in Florida in February 1989. She was in a coma with a machine doing her breathing for her for  thirty days. She recovered and they moved back to Bristol, VT in 1986 with her husband to be near her grandchildren Jessica and Jason Berry. She always liked Bristol, its people and its environment. For economic reasons, she and her husband Charles moved to Norwich, NY in1997. Anna was not well and her husband Charles cared for her to the best that he could. When Charles health became worse in 2007, Anna went to Monkton, VT to have her granddaughter Jes take care of her until her death.

    Anna was predeceased by her mother Julia her father James, her brother George, her sisters Mary and Florence.

    She is survived by her husband Charles, her grandchildren Jessica and Jason; her great grandchildren Jezriel, Xzavia, and Ezekiel. She enjoyed her great grandchildren very much while she was being cared for by her granddaughter Jessica. Anna is also survived many nieces, nephews and cousins.

    A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday June 19th at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol. Interment will be in Mt St Joseph Cemetery in Bristol. There will be no public calling hours. Edward Abraham Tucker Sr.

 

Bristol - Edward Abraham Tucker, Sr., 87, passed away Thursday, June 10 at Fletcher Allen Health Care surrounded by his family.

    Ed was born in Vergennes, VT on October 20, 1922, the son of Carson A. and Gladys L. Tucker. He married Beatrice I. Ravelin on June 8, 1944 in Fort Pierce, FL.

    At 11 years old he started working in a sawmill and continued to be a hard worker his entire life. Ed was a lifelong avid hunter, trapper and fisherman. In his younger years he used these skills as a guide as part of the family business.

    He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1946. During World War II he was a coxswain on the USS Truxtun APD-98, a landing craft for the amphibious force that patrolled the Atlantic Ocean. After the Navy, he attended the Diesel Motor School through the Miller Tractor Co. in Vergennes and repaired industrial tractors in VT, NY and MA for 5 years. He also held jobs milking cows at the Booth Farm, logging, meat cutting and working in an apple orchard. He worked for Polymers, Inc. for 30 years predominantly in maintenance and groundskeeping.

    He was a proud veteran and longtime member of the American Legion, Veteran of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. Prior memberships include the Lions Club, the Eagles Club and the Champlain Valley Fiddler’s Club.

    Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice and son, Edward A. Tucker, Jr. He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Bonnie and Chris Burpee of Bristol and Martha (Mert) and Paul Hanson of Monkton; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Haines of FL and Sally Hyduke of Winooski; plus a nephew and several nieces.

    A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Tuesday June 15th at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol. Interment will be in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol. Friends may call at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol on Monday June 14th from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 504, Middlebury, VT 05753 or Addison County Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.
