Francis L. Sturtevant

New Haven - Francis L. Sturtevant, 63 passed away Monday May 31, 2010 at Fletcher Allen Healthcare in Burlington.

    He was born April 4, 1947 in Middlebury the son of Lawrence and Erema (Thompson) Sturtevant.

    He was a superintendent of Pikes Industry for 32 years. He served in Army National Guard for four years. He was a member of American Legion Post #29 in Middlebury, VFW in Middlebury, and Eagles Club in Vergennes.

    Predeceased by his wife Margaret (Pat) Sturtevant on April 21, 2008.

    He is survived by his children, his daughter Lisa Sturtevant and husband Mike Poirier, his son Bruce Sturtevant and companion Tina Huffer; four grandchildren Jason Sturtevant, Bradley Sturtevant, Jessica Sturtevant and Tarah Poirier; brothers and sisters, Clarence and Yvette Sturtevant of New Haven, Sandy and Edgar Greeno of Brandon, Roger and Shirley (Goulet) Sturtevant of New Haven, Joyce and Wayne Abare of Florida, Carol and David Merritt of Tennessee; several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services were held on Thursday June 3rd at New Haven Congregational Church. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in New Haven, and a reception followed at American Legion Post #29 in Middlebury.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Addison County Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 754, Middlebury, VT, or American Cancer Society, 55 Day Lane, Williston, VT 05495-1460.

Doris Trudo

 

SALISBURY - Doris Trudo, age 83, died Saturday, May 29, 2010, surrounded by her loving family, at her home in Salisbury.

    Mrs. Trudo was born in Florence on August 7, 1926. She was the daughter of Carl and Anna (Hall) Bryant. She grew up in the Brandon area where she received her education. Following the death of her mother, when Doris was 15 she became the lady of the house raising her siblings. When her fatherremarried she moved to Woodstock and worked as a housekeeper and nanny.

    April 6, 1947 she married Calvin Lawrence Trudo in Forestdale. They made their home in Salisbury where she helped her husband on the family farm.

    Mr. Trudo died November 8, 2008. She and her husband had lived in Nanuet, NY for several years before returning to Vermont. She had worked at Rollers by Baker and ran a day care before working at the Brandon Training School, where she retired in 1988, as an Aide, after many years of service. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and travel. She loved to cook and have her family around. She accepted and loved all who entered her home unconditionally, as her family was her life.

    Surviving are 2 daughters Calleen Brosse & husband Richard of Brandon, Tonia Mulcahy of Salisbury; 2 sons Keith Trudo & wife Gerry and Addison and Kevin Trudo and his wife Sherry of Portales, N.M., 1 brother Robert Bryant of Leicester; 11 grandchildren; Tracie, Patrick, Heidi, Heather,
Matt, Sara, Kyle, Ben, Sam, Amanda and Troy; 19 great grandchildren; Austin, Colton, Trysten, Erin, Ethan, Alex, Chantelle, Rylee, Cody, Breanna, Jakob, Caleb, Peyton, Jeremiah, Ashley, Megan, Broch, Lochlan and Calvin. Many nieces, nephews & cousins also survive. She was predeceased by 3 brothers Don Bryant, Carl Bryant, Jr., and Harry "Sonny" Bryant, 4 sisters Erma Marsette, Evelyn Browe, Marjorie Trudo and Anna Mae Toto and a grandson Kristoffer Mulcahy.

    The graveside committal service and burial took place on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at the family lot in West Salisbury Cemetery. The Rev. John McDonald and Mr. Bertram Coolidge co-officiated.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in her memory to; The Arthritis Foundation, 6 Chenell Drive, Suite 260, Concord, NH 03301; or to a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Nelson Hodder

 

Ferrisburg - Burlington's Church Street will never be the same again, losing long time letter carrier "Nelson" last week. Nelson was born and raised in Buffalo NY where he played ice hockey and leaves many friends, He served in the US Army during Vietnam, stationed in Germany 1969-72 He went to Arizona State In Phoenix where he met his wife Sharon and his first child Nikyla was born.  He graduated with a degree in teaching and a minor in art.  They stayed in Phoenix for 10 years where Nelson joined the Postal service in 1982.  The family spent summers in Lake Huron Michigan where his family has property.  Nelson came to Burlington in the late eighties where daughter Jessica was born. After short time as a letter carrier in downtown  Winooski, He became a fixture in downtown Burlington.  First on College Street then for over 13 years on Church Street.  He was an amazing potter, artist, gardener, skier, ice skater.  He loved nature and loved sailing his boat on Lake Champlain.

    He is survived by his brother Benjamin Hodder, (Arizona) His wife Sharon of Ferrisburg and daughters Nikyla and Jessica of Burlington and endless friends.
