Luella Adele (Foster) Wolfreys

Dorchester, MA / Middlebury, VT - Luella Adele (Foster) Wolfreys passed away at her home in Dorchester, MA, Thursday, April 8, 2010. Luella was born in Middlebury, VT on August 1st, 1921. She was the daughter of Theodore and Nina (Chaffee) Foster.  Wife of the late William F. Wolfreys. She is survived by her children, William and his wife Barbara Wolfreys of Abington,  MA, Susan Manning of East Middlebury, VT, Robert Wolfreys of Somerville, MA, James Wolfreys of Boston, MA and her grandchildren Brian Manning and Janelle Manning of New Haven, VT, and her brothers Benjamin and his wife, Lois Foster, Howard Foster and sister-in-law Jean H. Foster, all of Middlebury, VT. Graduate of the Mary Fletcher School of Nursing, worked at Boston Childrens Hospital, and had a long career for the U.S. Postal Service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The American Heart Assn., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.

Dewitt Clinton “Brad” Bradbury, Jr.

Brandon - Dewitt Clinton “Brad” Bradbury, Jr., age 74 died Friday, April 2, 2010 at his home in Brandon.

   Mr. Bradbury was born in Newark, NJ on June 23, 1935. He was the son of Dewitt and Anna (Eckert) Bradbury; Sr., he grew up in Union, NJ where he received his education in local schools. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in Europe. Following his honorable discharge he returned home and began a career in the sheet metal fabrication and installation business, for ventilation systems. He retired to Brandon, VT in 1996 moving from Clark, NJ. As a member of The Fraternal Order of The Eagles, he dedicated his time to the Boy Scouts and Sea Explorers. Brad was a fireman first, always willing to lend a hand, serving 23 years with the Clark, NJ Fire Department and later volunteering with the Brandon, VT Fire Department for over 14 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed traveling and camping and later in life became the president of the Otter Valley Good Sam’s Club. He also belonged to The Neshobe Sportsman Club. Brad was a proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #22 for over 40 years. His involvement within the communities of where he lived has earned him many friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

    Surviving is his wife of 17 years; Marie Olsen Bradbury of Brandon, 2 sons Ronald Bradbury and his wife Marilyn and Clint Bradbury all who reside in New Jersey, 6 grandchildren; Robert, Jessica, Rebecca, Victoria, Hannah and Michael and 5 stepsons; Thomas, Mark, Edward, James and Daniel Olsen and 4 step grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Joan Erla and his brother Richard Bradbury.

    Rev. Albert “Skip” Baltz  conducted a Vigil  followed by members of the Brandon Fire Department who  officiated at the “Final Bell” ceremony.

    A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, April 8, at St. Michael’s Church in Union, NJ. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Hollywood Memorial Cemetery in Union, NJ.

Richard Bolivar Ullom

 

ORWELL-Richard Bolivar Ullom, age 72, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at his home in Orwell.

    Mr. Ullom was born in Dover, Ohio on July 24, 1937. He was the son of Claude and Deretha (Bolivar) Ullom. He moved to Connecticut in 1950. He was graduated from Staples High School in Westport, CT, and furthered his education at Northeastern University in Boston. He worked as a Draftsman and Tool Designer at Dura Plastics and later with Warren Condit Manufacturing Company. He designed and manufactured the Diamond Lights at the Lincoln Center in New York City. He and Warren Condit designed, built and assembled the first TelePrompTers that were used before the computer age. He owned and operated his own machine shop from 1969 to 1994, and was internationally known for his design and manufacturing of tools used in the making and repairing of Violin’s and Cello’s. Dick loved designing and solving mechanical problems. He first came to Vermont in 1978. He and his wife have owned and operated Chipman Point Marina in Orwell since 1994. He enjoyed sailing, camping and animals, especially wildlife.

    He is survived by his wife Pat Ullom of Orwell; whom he married in Norwalk, CT on December 19, 1973, 3 sons Michael E. Taube, Erle “Chip” Taube and Edward P. Taube. 1 brother James Ullom of Ridgefield, CT. 5 grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins also survive him. He was predeceased by his sister Gloria Cross.

    A memorial service “In Celebration of his Life” is being planned towards the end of May, 2010. A date and time will be announced later.

    Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made, in his memory, for the benefit of The Volunteers at Porter Hospital, 115 Porter Drive, Middlebury, VT 05753.

    The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to Dr. Unger and his staff, Dr. Covey and Dr. Davis and the Porter Hospital Nurses, Lab Staff and Volunteers, our boaters in “The Season Village”, and to everyone who has sent flowers, food, cards and your visits, your expression’s of sympathy is deeply appreciated.

    Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Paul Henry Cousino

 

Bristol-Paul Henry Cousino, 89, died April 1st, 2010 at Starr Farm Nursing Center following a long illness.  

    Paul was born on March 15, 1921 in Monkton, Vermont to Felix and Delia (Provoncha) Cousino.  Paul was the 2nd child of Felix and Delia and spent his childhood on the family farm in Bristol.

    He married Alice M. Gevry June 23rd, 1945 in St. Joseph’s Cathedral in Burlington, Vermont. Together they purchased the family farm and lived there until 1969 when they retired from farming.  They worked together as a family to build a successful dairy farm and provided their children with many opportunities to work and play together.  Paul and Alice welcomed their extended families for Sunday dinners for many years, creating wonderful memories for all.  Paul then began working as a contractor and electrician in the Burlington area after he and Alice moved to Williston. Paul and Alice retired to Bristol in 1985, making a new family home next to their former farm. They enjoyed 18 winters in Florida and spent much time with brothers, sisters and their spouses, who also wintered in Florida.

    During his years in Bristol, he served on the Bristol High School Board of Education.  He was a communicant of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Paul was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather, always making time for others and making him self available to help family and friends whenever he could. He possessed a gentle kind spirit that was loved and admired by all who knew him.

    He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Raymond and Lawrence and sisters, Edith Cousino, Belle LeCours, and Mary Bolduc.  

    He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice and their five children, Rodrique (Michelle) of Bristol, Leonard (Deborah) of Waterbury, Richard (Jane) of Leland, MS, Garry and (Cynthia) of Bristol and Mary Jane (Richard) Lefebvre of Williston.  He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren, and 3 step-grandchildren.  In addition to their children, Paul and Alice raised Alice’s youngest sister, Cecile.  She went to live with them from the age of 7 and they were like parents to her and grandparents to her children.  Cecile and her husband Richard Young reside in Sun City Center, FL. Paul is survived by his brother Robert, and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews.

    The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Starr Farm Nursing Center for their wonderful care.  

    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ambrose Caring Community.

    The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 7th at 11 a.m. by Rev. Pierre Lavallee.  Burial will follow at Mt. St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  Calling hours will be at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol on Thursday, April 6th from 5-8 p.m.
 

Rhonda L.  Mable

 

Vergennes-Rhonda L. Mable, 52 passed away Saturday April 3, 2010 at Fletcher Allen Healthcare in Burlington with family by her side.

        She was born April 13, 1957 in Middlebury the daughter of Diane Charron and the late Ralph Mable Jr.

      She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend and will be missed by all.

       Rhonda is survived by two daughters, Brandy Brown and fiancé’ Wayne Newton; Bridget Sullivan and her husband Patrick; four grandchildren  Cloey, Gabrielle, Tristin, and Charlotte; her mother Diane Charron; a cherished nephew Jonah Wheelock; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

          There will be a celebration of her life at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, Lupus Foundation, VT Chapter, 57 South Main St. Waterbury, VT 05676.

Raymond A. McEvoy

Bridport - Raymond A. McEvoy, 74, died unexpectedly Monday April 5, 2010 at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

    He was born October 6, 1935 in Watertown, NY the son of Howard and LuLu Whalen McEvoy.

    He attended High School in Passaic, NJ where he was a star football player known as “Sophomore Flash” and he won a football State Championship.  Also, he held a state record in Track and Field 440 yard dash.  He attended Ithaca College on a football scholarship where he majored in Civil Engineering.  Then he served in the Marine Corp where he was stationed in the Middle East. He married Gail Petix on February 6, 1960.  They lived in New Jersey and he worked as a civil engineer for many years.  They moved to Vermont.  He owned and operated McEvoy & Sons Feed and Grain in North Ferrisburgh. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and he enjoyed the outdoors.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

    Raymond is survived by his wife of 50 years Gail McEvoy of Bridport; 3 children, Joel and wife Lisa McEvoy of Essex, Brian and wife Kara McEvoy of Port Orchard, WA, Kelly McEvoy of New Haven; and 7 grandchildren, Ryan, Hanna, Dylan, Kaitlyn, Zane, Zachary, and Zander; special sister in law Marie; brother in law Guy Petix and wife Elaine; many nieces and nephew John.

    A mass of Christian burial was celebrated  on Monday April 12th at St. Peter Catholic Church in Vergennes. There will be no public calling hours. In lieu of  flowers, contributions may be made to Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association, PO Box 504, Middlebury, VT 05753. Brown- McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes will be in charge of arrangements.
