ROBERT J MALONE

Whiting- Robert J Malone, 81, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.

    He was born December 2, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of William and Clara (Weininger) Malone.

    He met his wife Helen (Santry) Malone in Brooklyn, NY in 1950, and they married in 1952. They spent the first portion of their lives in Brooklyn. They raised their family on Long Island and in New Jersey, before moving to Whiting, Vermont full time in the fall of 1981.

    Robert worked in human resources for Arabian American Oil in New York City, C.F. Braun in New Jersey, and Allied Chemical Wilputte Division (in New Jersey). His last 13 working years were spent at Middlebury College, working security, before retiring in 1994.

    His later year hobbies have included collecting, puzzles, gardening, talking on the phone with friends and family, spending time with his dog Chloe, visiting with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching tv.

    He is survived by two daughters, Ellen Malone of Whiting, and Ann Blanchard of Whiting; his son-in-law Paul Elmore and his wife Tammy of Middlebury,VT; his beloved grandsons: Matthew Blanchard and his wife Stacey of Brandon, VT; Joseph Blanchard and his Wife Emily of Menomonee Falls, WI; Benjamin and Michael Elmore of Middlebury, VT; his favorite granddaughter Mary Blanchard of Whiting, VT; three great-grandchildren: Raven, Savannah and Caleb Blanchard of Brandon,Vt; his brother William Malone Jr and his wife Joan, of Spring Hill, FL; his sister and best friend Marilyn Blatz of Trinity, Fl; his brother-in-law Ed Herrrmann of Hillsborough, NJ; several nieces, nephews and cousins; his neighbor and close friend Carol Bogren, of Whiting and his beloved companion, Chloe.

    He is predeceased by his wife Helen Malone in 1986, his daughter, Cathleen Elmore in 1999, and his sister Dorothy Herrmann in 2009.

    Memorial service and burial will be held in the spring.

    Memorial gifts may be made to the Addison County Humane Society.

Anna Louise Prahler Wilcox

MIDDLEBURY- Anna Louise Prahler Wilcox, 92, died March 4, 2010 at Helen Porter Nursing Home. Born Jan. 28, 1918 in Medina, N.Y., she was the daughter of Ilda and Joseph Prahler of Ridgeway, N.Y. and the second of six children.

     Anna went from a two room country school to receiving a Masters degree from State Teacher’s College in Albany, N.Y..  She taught at Dekalb Jct. and Syracuse University in N.Y. State and at the University of Virginia and University of West Virginia before moving to the Canal Zone, Panama where she taught college and met Kenneth Wilcox whom she later married.  She continued her teaching career at FDR High School in Lima, Peru until retiring.

    In 1993 Anna and her husband moved back to the U. S. and settled in Woodstock, Virginia until coming to Addison, Vermont to live with their daughter and son-in-law.

    As a teacher, Anna had the special ability to command attention yet make the classes interesting and to inspire her students to do their best.  Be it in the classroom or showing neighbors how to smock or bake bread, Anna touched many lives in the numerous places she lived.

    Anna is survived by her husband, Ken and her siblings Joseph Prahler of Michigan, Robert Prahler of Washington State, Charles Prahler of Lyndonville, N.Y., Violet Miller of Rochester N.Y., daughter Louisa and son-in-law Jack Anderson and their families.
