Pittsford Volunteer Fire Department has begun their new pumper-truck. The Voice got a look at the new vehicle on Saturday, March 6th 2010 during a training session a the fire station. KME Representative John Cameron Jr. was on hand to demonstrate the capabilities of the new KME “Panther”. The new unit was manufactured in Nesquehoning, P.A. It is capable of delivering 1500 gallon-per-minute operational capacity and has storage of 1000 usable-gallons. Cameron was impressed with the equipment.

“These guys are very fluent in the operation of this kind of equipment. Our company offers this kind of training with every unit we sell and we have a number of apparatus throughout the State of Vermont.” The KME office that John works out of is located in the Albany, N.Y. Industrial Park near the Airport.

Pittsford Fire Chief Tom Hooker and Assistant Fire Chief/State representative Butch Shaw had high praise for the new unit and its capabilities. “The old pumper-truck will also be kept in service,” Hooker explained. “We are going to move it to Florence to help with grass and forest fires.” On hands who were on site for Saturdays training were enthusisatic about the new equipment and what it means for the future of fire protection in Pittsford.
