T-Sgt. Reed Asaph Prescott, II

LEXINGTON, KY/BRISTOL VT - T-Sgt. Reed Asaph Prescott, II passed on to his resting place on Monday, February 22, 2010. He was born September 26, 1935 in St. Johnsbury, VT to Sarah (Robbins) Prescott and Reed Asaph Prescott who predeceased him on September 16, 1935, ten days before his birth. His mother never remarried.

    Reed was raised in his early years in Starksboro with the help of many in the village while his mother worked to support the family at the Robinson Creamery. He was a living example of a village raising a child. He lived there until 1949 when they moved to Burlington, VT. He attended school until he enlisted in the US Air Force on March 5, 1953. Reed married Virginia Carter on September 27, 1957.
Reed started out as an Aircraft maintenance repairman. Then he cross trained into the Personnel Career field where over the years he excelled. During the last seven years he helped develop and implement the Air Force first Mechanized Personnel Record on IBM cards from typewritten. He received the Air Force Commendation Medal for exemplary service for this. He was then assigned to Strike Command (a joint military command made up of all branches of the service) at MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL. There he created a mechanized personnel record that was compatible with all branches of service maintaining those records with complete accuracy for which he was awarded the Joint Service Commendation Medal.

    Upon retiring to Bristol after 20 years of service on April 1, 1974, he worked in many cacompletely renovated their kitchen including making the cabinets. The family treasures furniture he made for them in his woodshop. He worked at VT Heating and Ventilating, Standard Register Company, Tomasi Hardware, Valley Print and Mail along with owning and operating The Furniture Doctor, a furniture refinishing and repair shop in Bristol with his wife, Virginia. He read up on and built his own computer and became the family computer repair technician.

     Reed enjoyed volunteering for the Five Town Newspaper, Bristol Rescue Auxiliary, the yearbook and the computer lab at MAUHS. Reed was awarded the Lawrence Diette Citizenship Award for his volunteer service for the yearbook and also for raising money to buy new computer equipment and software for the school.

     Reed is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia, his sister Marilyn and her husband, Col. Roland Cater and their family. He is also survived by his three children and their families, Reed Asaph Prescott III and wife Lisa and their children Isaac and Spencer, Robin Prescott Vaughan and special friend Jean Boni and her children April and husband Rick Rockwell, Brittany and Michaela Vaughan and her significant other Justin Moulton, Roger Prescott and wife Shelly and their children, Amanda and Lucas Prescott, and Loren Johnson. He also leaves five great grandchildren, Megan, Alanah, Breanne, Jeremiah and Reese. He leaves behind several in laws, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. He was also predeceased by his brother, Richard Prescott. A memorial service was held  on Friday February 26th at Bristol Federated Church. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bristol Federated Church Parsonage Roof Fund, or United Church of Lincoln Youth Ministries.

Jessie M. (Bushey) Charlebois

Ferrisburgh - Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother passed away suddenly on February 24, 2010 predeceasing her husband of 57 years by 18 hours.  She was 77.
Jessie was born in Charlotte, VT on April 29, 1932, the daughter of Henry and Jessie (Hadley) Bushey, the 6th of 7 children.  Jessie attended Burlington High School and Burlington Business College.  She worked for many years as an executive assistant at General Electric.

    On June 22, 1953 she married Richard G. Charlebois. They were long time Ferrisburgh residents who built  their own home and owned and operated the Weinerburger Diner and Charlebois Auto Parts Store, Garage, and Wrecker Service.  Jessie was a member of the Addison County Eagles and the Vergennes American Legion Post #14 auxillary.  Jessie greatly enjoyed cooking, travel, visiting casinos, reading, and watching Boston Red Sox games.  Family was the center of her life and some of her happiest times were family dinners.  No one left her house hungry.

    Jessie was briefly survived by her husband Richard.  She is survived by her children, Richard G. Charlebois Jr. of Ferrisburgh, Clara J Charlebois of Vergennes and Anna M. Charlebois Ouellette and her husband Randy Ouellette of Vergennes.  Grandchildren Cassie Charlebois, Danielle Charlebois, Millie Charlebois, Logan Ambrose, Evan Ambrose, and Charles Ouellette.  Great Grandchildren Connor Trudeau, Caleb Trudeau, David Charlebois and two Step Grandchildren Dylan Ouellette and Marissa Ouellette.

    She is also survived by brother and sister (in laws) Real Charlebois of Burlington, Bernard Charlebois of Springfield OR, Eugene & Judy Charlebois of Addison. Simone Masse of NY, Rita Booska of New Haven,  Jean Bernick of Marshfeild, and Rena & Ian Booth of Forestdale, Reynold Goddard of Addison, Lyndon Fish of Bristol and Barbra Bushey of Middlebury.  Also surviving are many neices and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Jessie (Hadley)  Bushey and siblings Edith Chamberlain, William Bushey, Robert Bushey, Ruby Elkins, her identical twin sister Jacqueline Fish, and Ralph Bushey.  Also her sister in law Anita Goddard.

    Services will be held with her husbands services. Funeral services will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church in Vergennes at 10:00am on Monday March 1st 2010.

We wish to thank the VARS and the ER staff at Porter hospital.

She was loved by many and we will miss her dearly.
 

Richard G. Charlebois

Ferrisburgh- After several months of declining health Richard George Charlebois died at Fletcher Allen Health Care on February 25, 2010 at the age of 82.  He was born on May 13th,1927 to Oliver and Clara (Pomainville) Charlebois in Weybridge, VT. He was the 4th of 9 Children.  His parents were Canadian citizens who moved to Vermont at the start of thier marriage and joined the farming community.

    Richards career began on the Weybridge Dam project for F.A. Tucker Co. His electrical career started with Sherwin Electric Co. in So Burlington and he joined the Local Union #300 of the Electrical Journeyman, working on many commercal projects such as the IBM plant in Essex Jct.  Missile Bases in Alburg & Swanton, and Vermont Yankee in Vernon.  While continuing with his electrical career he started the Wienerburger Diner in Ferrisburg (one of the first fast food restaurants in Addison County which he manged for almost 30 years) In 1973 he started Charlebois Auto Parts Store, Garage and Wrecker Service, a business he was still very much a part of up until his death.  Richard was an Army Veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Amercian Legion Post #14 He was also a member of the Addison County Eagles, Electrial Workers Local Union #300 and the Addison County Fiddlers

    Richard married Jessie Marie (Bushey) Charlebois on June 22 1953 and they were married for almost 57 years before she predeceased him by 18 hours.  He is survived by his children Richard G. Charlebois Jr. of Ferrisburgh, Clara J Charlebois of Vergennes and Anna M. Charlebois Ouellette and her husband Randy Ouellette of Vergennes. Grandchildren Cassie Charlebois, Danielle Charlebois, Millie Charlebois, Logan Ambrose, Evan Ambrose, and Charles Ouellette.  Great Grandchildren Connor Trudeau, Caleb Trudeau, David Charlebois and two Step Grandchildren Dylan Ouellette and Marissa Ouellette.

    Also surviving are brothers Real Charlebois of Burlington,  Bernard Charlebois of Springfield OR and Eugene & Judy Charlebois of Addison.  Four sisters, Simone Masse of NY, Rita Booska of New Haven,  Jean Bernick of Marshfeild, and Rena & Ian Booth of Forestdale.  Brother Inlaws Reynold Goddard of Addison and Lyndon Fish of Bristol and Sister Inlaw Barbra Bushey of Middlebury.  Also surviving are many neices and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents Oliver and Clara (Pomainville) Charlebois and sister Anita Goddard, and a number of brother and sister in laws.

    Services will be held with his wifes services.  Funeral services will be held at St. Peters Catholic Church in Vergennes at 10:00am on Monday March 1st 2010.

    We would like to send a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at FAHC who took care of him in the final months of his life.

    He was a very wise man of incredible strength.

J. Brian Sargent Sr.

Bristol - J. Brian Sargent Sr. 57 passed away Tuesday February 23, 2010 at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

    He was born March 2, 1952 in Rutland the son of John and Edna Dana Sargent.

    He graduated in 1970 from Wallingford High School. He was an avid baseball pitcher from 1972 to 1982 and he had a chance to try out for Boston Red Sox but instead he served in Army National Guard from 1970 to 1972. In 1970’s he lived in Woodstock and started working for CVPS as a lineman and then he moved to Bristol and lived there for more than 35 years and worked at CVPS for 39 years. He enjoyed softball, bowling, golf, basketball, snowmobiling, poker. He especially enjoyed doing the Middlebury Member Guest Tournament with Walter Mosher for the past 15 years.

    He is survived by his wife Tracy Sargent of Bristol; three children John Brian Sargent Jr. stationed in US Army in Virginia; Jeffrey Sargent and wife Pam of Virginia; Melody Sargent of Bristol; mother of his three children Donna Bowen Sargent; a special grandchild, Walter David Sargent Burbo (AKA Gumby) who called his grandfather Bumpa; his step children, Joshua Sorrell of Springfield, VT; Trevor Farr and fiance’ Melissa Brittell; and Wade Farr all of Bristol; three sisters Gara Connors and husband Alfred of Castleton, VT; Barbara Connors and husband Paul of Okeechobee, Fl; Brenda Sargent of Boynton Beach, Fl.; several nieces and nephews; a brother in law Scott Wilber of Colchester; Sister in law Michele Sargent of NY; special group of friends from CVPS; special friends Walter and May Mosher who were like parents to him. Predeceased by his parents and his brother John Edward Sargent Sr.

    Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Monday March 1st at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Interment will be in the spring. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Bristol Rescue Squad, Inc., PO Box 227, Bristol, VT 05443.
