Loren D. Wooster

Benson, VT - Loren Dennett Wooster 91, died Sunday January 24, 2010 at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, after a brief illness.

    He was born July 12, 1918 in Cornwall, the son of the late Guy S. & Amelia F. (Dennett) Wooster.

    Loren was a veteran having served with the United States Army during WW II.

    He was a former member of the Shoreham Fire Department.

    Loren was a handyman fixing small appliances for many years.

    He is survived by his wife, Janet (Ackerman) Hulett Wooster, of Benson, his two children, Linda Wooster Upton, of Hartland, VT and Loren D. Wooster III, of Benson, by his step children, Ron Oliver, Gene Oliver, Anne Oliver, Hope Hulett Kennedy, Holly Hulett Boyce and Heather Hulett Harvey. Also by his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves his former wife Lucille Atwood Oliver Wooster James. Also by several nieces and nephews.

    Loren was predeceased by his brother, Guy Wooster Jr. and his two sisters, Margery Soter and Bernice Fucile.

    There will be no services at this time.

A grave side service will be held in the spring in Evergreen Cemetery in Cornwall at a later date.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Benson at P.O. Box 186, Benson, VT 05731

HERBERT  JACKSON

MIDDLEBURY- Herbert J. Jackson, 88, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Porter Hospital, Middlebury.

    Born October 21, 1921 in Shoreham, he was the son of the late David and Bernice (Sartwell) Jackson. He was a graduate of Middlebury High School.

    Herbert was a dairy farmer in Bridport for many years, selling his farm in 1964.  He then worked as a salesman for IBA and Agway for many years.

    He was a member of Morning Sun Lodge #5 of Bridport and was a founding member of the Bridport Fire Department and maintained his association for over 60 years. He was a former member of the Bridport Grange and was a volunteer for Champlain Valley Agency on Aging.  He was a resident manager of Middlebury Commons for 10 years. .  

    He enjoyed fishing, puzzles, playing cards, and loved to travel and stop at every diner along the way.  

    Family members include his wife Gertrude (Birchard ) Jackson of Middlebury; a son, Evan Jackson and his wife Robin of Salisbury; a daughter, Crystal Jackson and her husband, Reid Peck of Weybridge; a sister, Isabel Bronson of Bridport ; four grandchildren, James, Nate, Ashley and Sky Jackson; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by a brother, Francis Jackson.     A funeral service was conducted at 10 AM Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Morning Sun Lodge, #5 Bridport with the Rev. Tim Franklin officiating.  Spring burial will take place in Bridport Central Cemetery.  

    The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Bridport Fire Department, P.O. Box 125, Bridport, VT 05734 or to Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 504, Middlebury, VT 05753.
