Local Business Supports Boys & Girls Club

In this season of giving, Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vergennes has benefited from the generosity of a local business above and beyond what would be generally expected.  Steve Miller, owner of Auto Creek / A.C. Sports in Ferrisburgh and Vergennes, stopped by the Club one day in November to make a unique and generous offer.  His donation of a new Yamaha Wolverine ATV to be raffled off to benefit the Club came as a great surprise to the staff and board and was very much appreciated.

Over the course of the next month, the ATV could be found at Vergennes Variety, Denecker Chevrolet, 3 Squares Café and other places in the Community where Auto Creek employees sold tickets for $1 each to win the ATV.  The December 23rd drawing at halftime of the Vergennes Union High School Boys basketball game made a wonderful Christmas present for winner, Mike Forand, Jr. of Ticonderoga, New York.

The raffle raised just under $1900 for the Club, which provides much needed financial help at the end of a challenging fund raising year.  As Dave Stearns, Auto Creek manager, put it, “We hope we can help out the Club and raise the awareness of other businesses that we have to support our community.  If we don’t step up to help, who else will?”  Club executive Director, Mike Reiderer, was grateful for the surprise contribution, “Not only was it wonderful for Auto Creek / A.C. Sports to donate the ATV, but their staff did all the work.  We owe a great thanks to Dave Stearns, Jason Russell and all the staff that helped out with this.  The money was wonderful, but it’s also reassuring to get another example of community members coming forward to support our work.”

The Boys & Girls Club provides recreation and developmental programming for youth ages 6 through 18 through after school programs, school partnerships and community events.  For more information about the Club and its programming, call 877-6344 and for sales and service on Subaru and Yamaha call Auto Creek / A.C. Sports at 425-5342.
