Clifford Frank Francis

North Ferrisburgh - Clifford Frank Francis 89 passed away Thursday December 10, 2009 at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury with his son by his side.

    He was born December 2, 1920 in New Haven the son of Salomond and Mary Francis.

    Clifford was a member of North Ferrisburgh United Methodist Church. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels. He attended senior citizen meetings at Eagles Club in Vergennes. He worked at Shelburne Museum for more than thirty years where he was in charge of antique restoration. He moved the Ticonderoga to the current location and he rebuilt several buildings at the museum. He was avid gardener and he grew numerous kinds of flowers. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

    Predeceased by his wife Winnifred Francis on September 22, 1999.

    Clifford is survived by his six children, Barbara Siegal of Florida; Henry Francis of Washington; Sherry Francis of Starksboro; Deborah Geehan of Lincoln; Norman Francis of Huntington; Michael Francis of Middlebury; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; three brothers Donald, Leonard, and Clayton; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his son Ronald, his brothers Henry, Howard, Robert, his sisters Dorothy and Harriet.

    Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Monday December 14th at North Ferrisburgh United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the spring.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Shelburne Museum, Attn: Linda Pervier, PO Box 10, Shelburne, VT 05482. 

Alma A. Ringer

Vergennes  - Alma A. Ringer 93 passed away Tuesday December 8, 2009 at Vergennes Residential Care.

    She was born May 30, 1916 in East Orange, NJ the daughter of Henry and Maude (Bedell) Altengarten.

    Alma was a longtime resident of Ferrisburgh where she enjoyed flower gardening. She was active in League of Women Voters, PTA while she raised her family. Prior to her retirement she was employed at Simmonds Precision in Vergennes.

    She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Vergennes.

    Predeceased by her husband Bernard Ringer in 1997.

    Alma is survived by a daughter Sally Farley of NY, a son Kenneth Bush and wife Barbara of Burlington; a son George Ringer and wife Joanne; a son Ralph C. Ringer and wife Cynthia both of Vergennes; a son in law Gerald Russell of Burlington; ten grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a daughter Carol Russell, son in law John Farley, a brother Henry Altengarten.

    A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Saturday December 12th at St Peter Catholic Church in Vergennes. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes.  In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Champlain Valley Elderly Services, 112 Exchange St., Middlebury, VT 05753, or Vergennes Residential Care 34 North St. Vergennes, VT 05491.

Iola A. “MA” Torrey

Shoreham - Iola A. “MA” Torrey 87, died Saturday evening December 5, 2009 at Porter Medical center.

    She was born September 19, 1922 in Bridport the daughter of the late Albert & Lillian (Cassina) Howe. She attended local schools in Bridport.

    Iola was a past member of the Grange, she enjoyed riding her four wheeler, being outside enjoying nature and was famous for her baked Macaroni and cheese and her baked beans.

    She is survived by her 7 children, Duane Torrey & his wife Diane, of Bridport, Muriel Duffany & her husband Harry, of Bridport, Susan Douglas & her husband Scott, of Shoreham, June Obst & her husband Thomas, of Shoreham, James Torrey & his wife Ann, of Shoreham, Mary Markwell & her husband Arthur, of Cornwall and Shirley Peltier & her husband Jack, of Shoreham. By her seventeen grandchildren, her twenty-one great-grandchildren and her one great-great-grandchild. By her sister Aureola Brunell, of Vergennes and by her several nieces and nephews.

    She was predeceased by her husband Forrest Torrey who died in June of 2003 and also by her two grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held at MA’S Last Chance Camp on Torrey Lane in Shoreham on Tuesday December 8, 2009, the Rev. Ralph Stone will officiated.

      Burial followed in Lake View Cemetery in Shoreham.

    In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shoreham First Response at P.O. Box 202 Shoreham, VT 05770 or to the Bridport First Response at P.O. Box 82, Bridport, VT 05734 or to the Addison County Home Health & Hospice at P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.
