Following an orientation to clinical shadowing on September 14th, students in the Health Careers program at the Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center began their clinical rotations on Monday, September 21st at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury, Vermont. Students will rotate through nearly all of the departments at the hospital on a weekly basis. The current schedule is through January 2010, but will continue year long for some of the students. During these experiences, students shadow professionals in their specialty area to learn first hand what is involved. For students who have not yet decided on which health career they would like to pursue, these hospital rotations will be invaluable to their discernment.
Under the guidance of Pat Jannene, VP of Clinical Services; Steve Boudah, Director of Volunteers; and Rita Wells, Health Careers Instructor; students will visit the following departments: Radiology, Cardiology, Respiratory, Laboratory, Medical-Surgical Nursing, Maternity, Surgical Department (OR & PACU), Pharmacy, Emergency Department, Physical/ Occupational/ Speech therapies, Dietary/Nutrition, and Social Services.
