Esther Wasley Valentine
Lincoln/Bristol - Esther Wasley Valentine, 94 passed away Thursday September 3, 2009 at Cold Spring Care Home in Lincoln.
She was born November 10, 1914 in Bristol, CT the daughter of John Irving and Esther Perkins Wasley.
She attended Bristol, CT schools through High School. She took nurses training at Methodist Episcopal Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. She received her RN in New York, Conn., and Vermont. In 1941 she married Bernard S. Valentine and they moved to Bristol, Vermont in 1946. She did private duty at Mary Fletcher and private duty and floor duty at Porter Hospital.
She was a life member of the Bristol Rescue Squad. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bristol serving as church clerk for 40 years. She was active in the Children’s Department and Vacation Bible Schools. She helped present the message that smoking was hazardous to health by participating in smoking cessation programs and displays at Addison County Fairs.
Her favorite color was red, if you can wear something red and formal attire is not required.
Predeceased by her husband Bernard Valentine on January 6, 2006.
Esther is survived by her daughters Helen Turner of Lincoln, Edith and Paul Towsley of Hoosic Falls, NY; a son Daniel and Linda Valentine of New Haven; three grandsons John of Oregon, William and David Towsley of Hoosic Falls, NY; three granddaughters Tammy, Stephanie and Roxanne; a great granddaughter Charlotte Towsley; her brother Irvng Wasley and wife Barbara of Warren, CT; her sister Eleanor Menzer of Lincoln. Several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday September 7th at Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bristol on Rockydale Road. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bristol Rescue Squad, PO Box 227, Bristol, VT 05443, Addison County Home Health & Hospice PO Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753, or Audobubon VT 255 Sherman Hollow Road, Huntington, VT 05462.
Rev Charles N. Graham
Bristol/Hardwick - Rev Charles N. Graham, 67 passed away unexpectedly Friday September 4, 2009 in Clarendon. He was born September 3, 1942 in Bennington, the son of Harley and Jean Burt Graham.
Rev. Graham graduated from Bennington High in 1960 and attended Union College in Barbourville, Kentucky where he earned a B. A. in 1964. After college he attended seminary in Ohio. He received a Master of Divinity from the Methodist Theological School and was ordained a Minister in 1967.
Reverend Graham served as the pastor of several churches in his career, almost all in and around Vermont, including Essex (NY), Hardwick, Grand Isle and No. Hero, the Monkton Friends Methodist Church and the Bristol Federated Church. He retired from Bristol and Monkton in 2008 after serving there for 17 years. For the past year, Rev. Graham attended the Middlebury United Methodist Church.
Rev. Graham loved dogs. He owned five Cocker Spaniels in his life, including King, Buffy, Misty, Sadie, and Tuffles. He lived an active life, often walking his dog, attending local community events and visiting with friends and members of his church. He was a lover of history and civics, especially all things having to do with Vermont.
Charles is survived by his sister Holly Jean Graham of Goffstown, NH; two nephews Michael Josef Adamowicz, Matthew Aaron Adamawicz and wife Nicole, all of Waltham, MA; a grand-nephew James, special cousin Janice Hogan of Cheshire, CT; and his beloved dog Tuffles.
Funeral services were held on Saturday September 12th at the Bristol Federated Church. A graveside service was held on Saturday at Groton Village Cemetery. A Masonic service was held on Friday during the calling hours. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Bristol Federated Church, Attn.
