Roy N. Carlson

North Ferrisburgh/ Odell, Oregon - Roy N. Carlson 98, passed away Sunday July 5, 2009 at Birchwood Terrace Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Burlington.

    He was born April 25, 1911 in Worcester, MA the son of Charles and Lena Freeman Carlson.

    He graduated from Burlington High School and he served in the US Navy during WWII.  He was a member of Patriot Lodge #33 F&AM in Hinesburg, and  Shriners Scottish Rite. He married Evelyn Trudo in 1953, they made their home in Starksboro, and she predeceased him 1967. He worked for Hagar Hardware for over 30 years in Burlington. In 1970 he moved to Oregon and he married Viola Vance in 1972 and they lived their together for 37 years. He moved back to Vermont in 2007 after Viola passed away.

    Roy is survived by six children, Faith Fuller and husband Charles of Selkirk, NY; Lawrence Carlson of Waltham; David Carlson and wife Linda of Alburg; twin daughters, Edith Fraser of North Ferrisburgh; Evelyn Little and husband Lester of North Ferrisburgh; Karl Carlson and companion Barbara of Oregon; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; two step children Richard and Edward Vance. Predeceased by a son Thomas Carlson in 1995.

    A graveside service was held on Thursday July 9th at Highgate Center Cemetery in Highgate. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to  Boston Shriners Children Hospital, 51 Blossom St. Boston, MA 02114. Brown - McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes will be in charge of arrangements.
