A.R.T. Presents a Shakespeare Fete at the Dreamhouse Country Inn

Tuesday May 26, 2009

On May 29 from 4-6PM Addison Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) will present a Shakespeare Fete,  Rouges, Thieves and Lovers, at the Dreamhouse Country Inn on 382 Hewitt Road in Bristol (see dreamhousecountryinn.com).  Join us for a festival of Shakespearean Scenes, Song and Original Student Peoetry in a beautifulgarden setting.  The show is free, although donations will be gratefully accepted.  If it should rain, the performance will take place in the A.R.T. Studio Theater in the Hannaford Career Center in Middlebury at the same time.  For more information call Candace at 382-1036.  No reservations are necessary.

A.R.T. is a special high school training program in the theater arts, and requires students to produce five high quality shows a year.  There are actually two programs-one in technical theater and the other in acting.  Students elect to be in these programs for half their high school day and earn three credits-English, Fine Arts and an elective.  Students have attended our program from a variety of high schools:  Middlebury, Mount Abraham, Vergennes, Rochester, Champlain Valley, Otter Valley, Red Cedar and Gailer. In their fourteen years, A.R.T. has produced over 60 shows to an admiring public such as The Diviners, The Diary of Anne Frank, Little Women, The Lusty and Comical History of Tom Jones, A Flea in Her Ear, The Good Doctor, A Christmas Carol, Frankenstein, and this year’s whimsical fantasy AliceecilA, based on the Lewis Carroll’s Alice Stories.  They often perform to a sold-out house.  Their program earns rave reviews from the community, parents and students, granting foundations and alumni.

A.R.T. alumni are involved in the industry in several ways.  Actors have been Broadway understudies, featured in soap operas, working with Shakespeare companies, founding their own companies-Theater, Improvisation and Internet TV.  We even have former students working with children’s theater in Africa, Switzerland and Guatemala.  An A.R.T. alumni was a production assistant for the popular television show “Runway”.  She has also worked off-Broadway as a stage manager.  Alumni are working for radio, arts college admissions, film productions and as teacher/directors.

A Shakespeare Fete at the Dreamhouse Country Inn is the last show of the 2008-09 season.
