Green Mountain Equestrian Center is located at the corners of East and Cross Street and brings to Addison County the combined talents of Jane Costello and Jacki Galenkamp, who together have been involved with horses for over thirty years. With a grand opening set for early summer, Green Mount Equestrian Center offers the novice and the expert alike a place to meet and provides services that allow them to continue to explore the never ending world of horses.

Both Jane and Jacki share a history of involvement with horses that began when they were young and quickly became personal. “I started with a pony at my uncle’s,” remembered Jane. “I also got ditched by that pony, but it was the beginning of a love affair. From there I mucked out stalls to earn lessons and was riding anywhere and anytime I could. I apprenticed under Peggy Blishwood in Middlebury and at TapRoot Morgan and continued on to manage some of the most reputable programs in the area.” Listening to the conversation, Jacki chimed in with her always loving to ride, but really becoming passionate about horses when she adopted a mare and foal five years ago. While she has always been involved with horses and is a Youth Leader of 4H programs and groups, Jackie remarked that the horse brings, “Focus, stress release, and teaches care and responsibility at all levels of involvement.” Currently there are horses at Green Mountain that meet all needs.

Green Mountain Equestrian Center offers boarding, lessons, training, and clinics and welcomes all customers to contact them at (802)349-8591 or (802)989-2120. Both Jane and Jacki spoke of the open barn approach they stress and offer different trainers and clinics on a monthly basis. Former US Olympic rider Story Jenks has already offered clinics at the center and will be back again in the coming month. “We pride ourselves on being an education oriented barn,” commented Jane. “We help with all phases of horse ownership and training.”

While the interview progressed the barn was alive with sounds reflecting the camaraderie between youth and horses. The whinny’s, whickering and laughter of young equestrians and horses filled the indoor arena and outdoor ring. In one arena a beginner student worked on basics, while in the outdoor ring an advanced rider exercised a new border horse that had just arrived on site. Ribbons adorned some stalls and tack hung clean and supple waiting for its next use. Pulling in the driveway was a group of adult riders with their horse in tow, ready for their next lesson. It was evident that the barn attracted all ages and levels of experience and that horses provide a wonderful sense of community for those who have a passion for equine.

So come one, come all to Green Mountain Equestrian Center where you will meet Jane and Jacki and see first hand why horses are a growing part of the agricultural business of Addison County. It is a wonderful place to grow, learn and explore all that is possible with people and horses. “We are huge believers in animals and children,” remarked Jacki. “We love to match the client with the horse services that they need.” The Valley Voice welcomes Green Mountain Equestrian Center to the area and looks forward to the grand opening coming soon!
