The auction will be held on Friday, May 8th from 5:30 to 9:00 pm at the Basin Harbor Club in Vergennes.

The silent auction is from 5:30 to 9:00 pm.  The buffet is from 5:45 to 6:45 pm.  The live auction is from 6:45 to 8:00 pm and dessert is from 8:00 to 9:00 pm.

Both the silent and live auctions will include over 200 pieces of work generously donated by very talented Vermont artists and craftspersons, plus "special auction items" donated by area businesses and individuals. Items for auction range from rugs, jewelry, baskets and quilts to wallhangings, woven scarfs and throws and pottery.

There are also numerous special items such as gift certificates to local inns, restaurants and health clubs.  There will be something for everyone at this fun-filled event.  Included in the price of your $25 ticket is wonderful food -- a variety of hors d'oeuvres, a Vietnamese lemmongrass chicken  with rice noodles and a tofu or seitan vegetarian option and scrumptious desserts.  A cash bar will also be available.  As you stroll through the event, enjoy the soothing sounds of Fred Barnes on piano and Margie Bekoff on the harp.

One of our featured artists is Shirley Reid Thompson.  She has always been inspired by nature.  Her art depicts all facets of it.  What inspires Shirley here in Vermont are Lake Champlain, a red cardinal on a white branch, a coyote howling at night or native fish living in our still pristine rivers and lakes.  A wildlife artist ?  Yes, with every imaginable medium.  For the auction she
has donated a pastel, "Chili Peppers,Too."

Another featured artist is Sally Stetson, a designer living in Stowe.  She keeps busy with a variety of design projects ranging from graphics, to textiles, to interiors.  Her studio, located in the upper level of a barn on a small farm with horses, dogs and a cat, provide ample inspiration for a number of endeavors.  Sally is donating a hooked rug, "Cat Yarn."

Jill Madden has donated an oil on linen entitled "Dead Creek I." She attended the New York Studio School and received an MFA from Boston University.  Jill currently shows her work in Vermont, Rhode Island, Boston and New York.

David King works in a small studio in Bristol.  He's been making custom furniture with local hardwoods for many years.  Traditional joinery, unique wood grain and smooth finishes are all apparent in his work, with a strong nod to the arts-and-crafts and Shaker aesthetic for design inspiration.  David has kindly donated a curly maple cutting board, "Happy Pear."

Featured artist Kristine Myrick Andrews, a native Vermonter, works and lives in Salisbury.  Trained in textile design and weaving at UVM, she now applies her weaving skills almost exclusively to creating award winning baskets.  Inspired by early Shaker, Appalachian and New England designs, Andrews works with split rattan and a variety of native materials.  This year she has donated a cherry
picking basket to the auction.

Hospice Volunteer Services is a small, non-profit agency dedicated to providing compassionate, emotional and physical care for people facing the end of life using trained hospice volunteers. The ticket price allows entrance to both the live and silent auctions and includes dinner and music. For more information call 388-4111.
