WomenSafe Recipient-Kimberly Krans

   WomenSafe  announced  Jean Shappee as the 2009 recipient of the Kimberly Krans Women Who Change the World Award. This award is presented annually to a woman in Addison County and Rochester whose outstanding work and achievements have furthered the safety of women and children in our community.  It is named after Kimberly Krans, a longtime supporter and dear friend of the WomenSafe community.

   Jean gives her all to make this world a better place for the women in our community.  She has worked for thirty years with women with developmental disabilities at the Elm Street  group home in Middlebury spreading encouragement, care and warmth.  

   Not only does Jean take on daily tasks such as food preparation, bills and laundry, she also generates an atmosphere where a house is a home, and women who live and work there are respected. With her gentle guidance, Jean has supported countless women with disabilities to work, travel, and participate in athletics and the arts and to take on any adventure they desire. Jean does so much for others, giving with an open heart and a cheery disposition.  She radiates a natural, steady shine that illuminates all who know her.

   The award celebration is held in March as part of National Women’s History Month.  Please join us on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 from 5-6:30pm at 109 Catamount Park in Middlebury to help us honor and celebrate Jean’s work and tremendous impact on the community.  Catamount Park is located off Exchange Street and across from the State Building.  Refreshments will be provided.
