Donald Shaw

MIDDLEBURY-Donald “Butch” Shaw, 85, a lifelong resident of Middlebury, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009 at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation, surrounded by his loving family.

   Born March 13, 1923, at the family home in Middlebury, he was the fifth of six children born to Charles J. and Frances (Sweenor) Shaw.

  He was a graduate of Middlebury High School where he lettered three sports and was later inducted into the Middlebury High School Hall of Fame in 1996. He was Captain of the hockey team.

   He married Jourdaine Severy on april 6, 1946 at St. Mary’s Church in Middlebury.

   He proudly served int eh united States Army Air Corps during WWII and was stationed in the  South Pacific.

   For over 35 years he was service manager for Brush Motors and later worked at G. stone Motors until retirement.During retiremen the was groundskeeper for UVM Morgan Horse Farm, Weybridge.

   He was a member of St. Mary’s Church.

   He was a member of the Middlebury Fire Department for 65 years where he was a life member and served as Assistant Chief from 1962 unti present and as a Lieutenant from 1955-1956. In addition he was a life member of the Addison County Fire Fighters Association.

   He was First Vice Commander in 1954-1955 of the American Legion. He was past president of the Small City Steppers Club.

   He was an avid camper and snowmobiler. Butch enjoyed cooking with Nub Duclos for the Middlebury Fireman’s Summer Bazaar and spending time with his family.

   Family members include, Charles “Butch” Shaw and his wife Mary of Florence and their son Dana: Donna Patterson and her husband Skip of Middlebury, and their sons Donald Patterson, richard Patterson and his wife Michele: Robert Shaw and his wife Janet of Bristol and their children, Jessica, amanda and Ian; David Shaw and his wife Wendy of Weybridge, and their daughter Danielle; and Patrick Shaw and his wife Lisa of Weybridge and their children Ben and Kimberly; and two great grandchildren, Zack and Nick Patterson of Maryland; one sister, Lucy Danyow of Middlebury; several nieces and nephews.

    He was predeceased by his wife, Jourdaine (Severy) Shaw on Nov. 10, 2004 and by two brothers, Buster and Lucius Shaw and two sisters Helen Shaw and Dorothy Moore. Calling hours were Sunday Feb. 15, 2009 at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 South  Main St., Middlebury. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday February 16 at St. Mary’s Church, Middlebury with Rev. Albert “Skip” Baltz as celebrant. Spring burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Genes C. "Pat" Begnoche

Vergennes - Genes C "Pat" Begnoche 82 passed away Tuesday February 10, 2009 at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

    He was born November 4, 1926 in St. John, Canada the son of Dieudonne' and Marieange Beatrice (Campbell) Begnoche.

    He is survived by his sister Muriel Blythe of Courtland, VA; his brother, Lawrence Begnoche of Middlebury; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his two sisters, Paulette West and Huguette Sangster and a brother, Fermin Begnoche.

    A mass of Chrisitian burial was celebrated 11 a.m. on Friday February 13th at St. Peter Catholic Church in Vergennes. Interment was in St. Peter Cemetery in Vergennes. Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes  was in charge of arrangements.
