Robert Moody Thompson

Lincoln-Robert Moody Thompson, 88, a lifelong resident of Starksboro and
Lincoln passed away on Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 at Helen Porter Healthcare in
Middlebury.

    Robert was born on October 23, 1920  in Starksboro of the late
Vesper C. and Kate Belle (Moody) Thompson.  He was the fourth of eleven
children.  He was predeceased by two sisters, Celia Clime of MD and Theda
Moran ot MA; and four brothers, Warren of Bristol, Kenneth of White River
Junction and Rudolph and Vesper, Jr., both of Starksboro.

    Robert graduated from Bristol High School in 1941.  He went to work
in an aircraft plant during WWII as a sheet metal worker.  Later he returned
to Starksboro and ran a logging and sawmill business with his brother
Rudolph during the 1950’s. He was proud to serve Starksboro  as a
representative in the State Legislature and as road commissioner.  He ended
his career working for the State of VT Highway Department.  Upon retirement,
he and his wife moved to Lincoln to care for his uncle, James Moody.

    Robert is survived by his wife Arlene (Blair) Thompson of Bristol
and their five children, daughter Jeanette and her husband James Adams of
Lincoln, Daughter Nilene Farnsworth of Bristol, daughter Carol Taggart of
Charlotte, daughter Mary Thompson of Hyde Park, NY, and son Robert and his
wife Tai Thompson of Dayton, OH.

    Robert is also survived by his two sisters, Oletha Bickford of
Middlebury and Leona Fawaz of CA; one brother, Elwyn Thompson and his wife
Vivian of MD; and six grandchildren,  Joshua Adams of Lincoln, Kate
Farnsworth and her husband, Brett Emilo of NY, Jeffery Pierce and his wife,
Melody of ME, Robert Thompson of OH, Seamus Thompson of LA, and Tony
Thompson of OH.

    Funeral services were held on Saturday February 7th at Brown- McClay
Funeral Home in Bristol.  Interment was at Maple Cemetery in Lincoln. In
lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lincoln Historical Society,
Lincoln, VT 05443.

Myron “Ron” P. Farnsworth

 

Oak Hill, Florida/ Vergennes, Vermont - Myron “Ron” P. Farnsworth, 83 passed
away Wednesday February 4, 2009 at his home in Oak Hill, Florida.

    He was born August 9, 1925 in Oxford, Massachusetts the son of Ira
and Emily Farnsworth.

    He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and he earned a Purple Heart.
He spent 26 years in the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1974. He built and
raced his own racecars, avid NASCAR fan, and collected Jaguars.

    Myron is survived by his longtime friend and companion Phyllis
Smotherman of Oak Hill, FL; two daughters, Linda Hololund of Winooski; Toni
Whitney of Wiscasset, ME; two sons, Myron “Butch” Farnsworth Jr. of
Burlington; Jerry D. Farnsworth of San Antonio, TX; a step daughter, Bonnie
Primm of Burlington, a brother Ira Farnsworth of Vergennes; several
grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services were held 1 p.m. on Monday February 9th at Brown-
McClay Funeral Home 48 South Maple Street, Vergennes. Interment will be in
Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes. Friends may call at Brown- McClay Funeral
Home in Vergennes on Sunday February 8th from 2 to 4 p.m.

Evelyn M.(Dashner) Dike

 

Bristol-  Evelyn M. (Dashner) Dike 87 years old of Bristol, VT died February
6, 2009 at her home.

    She was born August 23, 1921 in Post Mills, VT the daughter of
Manley and Maude (Douglas) Carpenter. After her mother’s death she was later
adopted by Alfred and Lena Dashner.

    She attended elemen-tary school in her home town of Washington, VT.
High School at Spaulding High School in Barre. She then attended Normal
School in Johnson VT, where she got her teachers degree. She started
teaching in a one room school in South Washington. Later she taught in
Bristol and Middlebury.

    She married Kenneth Dike in June 1945. In addition to 41 years of
teaching full time and 10 years of substituting after that, Evelyn was
active in many civic and social activities, including 28 years on the Mt.
Abe school board, library trustee in Bristol, Bristol Historical Society,
and others.

    She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth in 1984.
She is survived by her five children and their spouses, Lloyd and
Lynn Dike of Bristol; Rebecca and M. Charles Johnson of Shreveport,
LA; Robert Dike of San Jose, CA; Jay and LeeAnn Dike of Oakley, CA
and Geoffrey and Lisa Dike of Essex Jct.; eleven grandchildren,
Aaron (who lived with her for many years) Ian, Douglas, Paul,
Christine, Andrew, Evan, Nathan, Seth, Wyatt and Eathen; three step
grandchildren, Kelly, Richard, and Matthew; a great grandchild Liam;
six step great grandchildren, Courtney, Rhiana, Adrienne, Alexander,
Gabriel and Asher; several nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Tuesday February 10th at
Brown- McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Interment will be private.
Friends may call at Brown- McClay Funeral Home in Bristol on Monday
February 9th from 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may
be made to Addison County Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 754,
Middlebury, VT 05753.
