JANE F. MALONEY

VERGENNES - Jane F. Maloney pas sed away peaceful ly on January 23, 2009.

Jane was born on January 25, 1948 in Burlington, VT, the daughter of John and Marjorie

Beach Maloney. She graduated from Vergennes Union High School in 1966 and the College of William & Mary in 1970. In 1972, she earned a Masters degree in Library Science from the State University of New York at Albany.

 

In 1985 Jane married Tom Gamble who predeceased her Jane is survived by her sister, Mary Maloney, brotherin –law John Ferriss, nieces Kati and Beth Ferriss, nephew John Ferriss, dear friend, Polly Kingsbury, and The Tea Party Group In 1972, Jane began a job as a librarian at the University of Seattle. Three years later she came home to Vergennes to help manage the Basin Harbor Club where she remained until she was forced to retire due to multiple sclerosis.

She was brilliant, funny and charming and maintained her sense of humor despite the ravages of her disease. She asked that it be said: she died of that “horrible, nasty disease” multiple sclerosis. Janie’s courage and resourcefulness were an inspiration to us all.

 

A Memorial Service was held Saturday, January 31st at the Vergennes Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jane’s memory to the Bixby Library, the Vergennes Congregational Church or the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad.

 

KATHLEEN A. MELENDY

HUNTINGTON - Kathleen A. Melendy, 42 passed away Saturday January 24, 2009 at her home in Huntington.

 

She was born July 29, 1966 in Proctor, VT the daughter of the late David Foley Sr. and Kathleen Dezero Foley.

 

She was a former member of Huntington Fire Department. She enjoyed cooking, helping others, being a mother and raising her children, camping, and she was a big hearted person that enjoyed her life.  Kathleen is survived by her husband Matt, and three children, Patrick, Ashlei and Matthew; her mother Kathleen Dezero of Pittsford; two sisters, Corinne Squier of Chickopee, MA; Colleen Gilman of Wallingford; two brothers, David Foley Jr. and Robert Foley of Pittsford; Marylin and Irving Melendy of South Starksboro; several nieces, nephews, in laws, and other close family.

 

A memorial service was held on Wednesday January 28th at Huntington Baptist Church. Interment will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery in Pittsford in the spring. Brown- McClay Funeral Home in Bristol was in charge of arrangements.

 

H. JOYCE BURSEY

MONKTON - H. Joyce Bursey 97 passed away Monday January 26, 2009 at her home in Monkton.

 

She was born April 25, 1911 in English Harbour, Newfoundland, Canada the daughter of Gilbert and Elizabeth Ann (Batson) Bugden.

 

She married Rev Jonathan Bursey and he predeceased her March 18, 1999.  She taught at several schools in Newfoundland, Brownsville, and Monkton. She was an organist at her husband’s parishes in Brownsville, Bradford, Bristol, Vermont. She formed and conducted the boys choir and senior choir in Bristol Federated Church.  Joyce is survived by three children Basil W. Bursey and David Bursey of Monkton; Barry Bursey and wife Dora of Tucson, Arizona.

 

Funeral services were held on January 29th at Brown- McClay Funeral Home in Bristol. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Addison County Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.
