Leslie L. Ganson

Vergennes - Leslie L. Ganson passed away on Monday December 29, 2008 due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease.

    Les was predeceased by his beloved sons, Wayne Leslie and Gerald Lawrence, and also by his brothers Ralph, Elton and Wayne, and his sisters Sue, Helen, Marjorie, Lois, and Maxine.

    He is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Marie Ganson, his children Bradley of Kingsville, MD and Karen of Southington, CT, nine grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and a sister, Shirley Cain of Kansas.

    Les was born in Edna, TX on October 6, 1913 the son of William Louis and Elta Maude Powers Ganson. He grew up in MacPherson, KS. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army 13th Cavalry in December 1932 and was stationed at Ft. Riley, KS. In July 1935, Les participated in the last U.S. Cavalry Saber Charge at Hutchinson, KS. He graduated from Signal School at Fort Monmouth, NJ on June 11, 1935, receiving the Golden Seal.

    While at Ft. Monmouth, Les met and married the love of his life, Marie Paepke. They moved from NJ to Kansas then to Lyndhurst, NJ where their children were born. Then in 1948 they came to Vergennes, VT where Les worked at what was then called Simmonds Precision Products as an electrical engineer. One of his many projects was contracted for the Apollo Space Program.

    His interests were HAM radio-W1HFS, woodworking, gardening and helping others. He helped teach electronics classes at Vergennes Union High School’s night classes, taught Sunday school at Vergennes Methodist Church and was a Boy Scout Troop Leader. Les could always be relied upon by family and friends at a moment’s notice.

    A memorial service was held on Saturday January 3rd at Vergennes Methodist Church. Interment was in Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Vergennes Area Rescue Squad, Vergennes Methodist Church, Addison County Home Health and Hospice, Inc. or Meals on Wheels.

Madeline Y. Allen

 

Burlington - Madeline Y. Allen, 75 passed away Sunday December 28, 2008 at her home in Burlington.

    She was born May 8, 1933 in Sandwich Quebec, Canada the daughter of Hector and Florida Mary Chaulox.

    Predeceased by her husband Roger W. Allen Sr. on October 16, 1991.

    Madeline is survived by a daughter Kathryn Carbino and husband Douglas of Burlington; two sons Roger W. Allen Jr. and wife Bertha of Bristol; Dennis Allen and wife Julie of Monkton; 11 grandchildren Michelle, Anna, Jennifer, Stephen, Harley, Jared, Roger III, Clayton, Christopher, Michael and Ashley; a great granddaughter Maisa; a brother Maurice Chaloux of Barre; 4 sisters, Rita Benoit of Barre; Lucille Provost of Newport; Pauline Marquis of Newport; Geisle Fontaine of Williston. Predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.

    A mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Friday January 2nd at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol. Interment was in Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 77 Hegeman Ave. Colchester, VT 05446.

JEAN B. LOVETT

Jean B. Lovett, 85, of Morgantown, WV. died Saturday, December 20, 2008 after a brief illness. She was born April 6, 1923 in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, PA. Some of her ancestors where the earliest Quakers to arrive in America during the 1600’s.

    Employed as a secretary for Scott Paper Co. during World War II, part of her duties were to write letters to Scott Paper employees serving in the armed forces. As a favor to a friend she also wrote letters to one non-employee throughout the duration of the war.

    Upon discharge from the army that soldier, Joseph Lovett, sought out the letter writer from Scott Paper that kept his spirits up during the conflict. He met Jean and they courted for two years and were married on June 14, 1947 in Manoa, PA.

    Jean raised her family in PA. and NJ. while her husband worked for the Coca-Cola Bottleing Co. In 1982 her husband Joe died. in 1990 Jean moved to Middlebury, VT. to be close to her daughter, Elisabeth. she spent the last year of her life in Morgantown, WV. at the home of her son Raymond and his wife Leslie.

    Jean was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. She was an excellent knitter, able to execute conplex knitting designs. Watching birds at the feeder was a joy for her. Her constant companion was the tortoise shell cat named “Goose”, named after the relief pitcher for the NY Yankees, Goose Gossage. Following sports of all kinds was perhaps her greatest love, with baseball being her favorite.

    She adopted the Boston Red Sox and was thrilled when they won the World Series in ‘04 and ‘07.  It was an extra treat for her when the Philadelphia Phillies, a team she had rooted for most of her life, won the ‘08 Series this past fall.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, Ila Blackman and Ramona Chambers, two sisters, Peggy Zeisler and Mary Phinney and two brothers, Joe and Jim Blackman.

    She is survived by her son and his wife, Raymond and Leslie Lovett of Morgantown, WV., a daughter and her husband, Elisabeth and Robert  Deeble of Middlebury VT., three grandchildren, Cuyler Lovett of Washington DC, Lisa Lovett of Morgantown WV., Josef Deeble of Middlebury, VT. and numerous nieces and nephews.

    Cremation services were private. Interment will be at the New Garden Friends Meeting Cemetery, Kennett Square, PA. at a later date. Remembrances as donations can be made to the American Stroke Association at www.strokeassociation.org or to the Willis Eye Hospital at www.williseye.org.

KATHLEEN  MYRICK

 

BRIDPORT- Kathleen Diane Myrick, 57, died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 30, 2008.

    Born January 14, 1951 in Burlington, she was the beloved first born child of Frederick A. and Kathryn M. (Giard) Myrick. 

    She was a graduate of Middlebury Union High School, class of 1969 and from Fanny Allen School of Nursing, class of 1972.   Early in her career she worked for 25 years at Fanny Allen in Burlington as an LPN.  Prior to her illness, Kathleen was employed at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Middlebury, since 1996. 

    Kat, as she was known to family and friends, was an avid reader, cook and craftsperson.  Owner of 500 cookbooks, she especially enjoyed watching Food Network.  Kat also liked making jewelry and knitting hats and scarves for her many family members.

    Kat is survived by her mother, Kathryn  Myrick, of Bridport; with whom she lived; six sisters, Karen Nunn and her husband Joe of Bridport, Kelli McSweeny of Marion, MA, Kristine Andrews and her husband Jim of Salisbury, Kim Laramie and her husband Spencer of Canaan, NH, Karla and her husband Tom Marks of Cape Coral, FL, Klaudia Gray and her husband Mike of Harrison, ME; two brothers, Kip Myrick and his wife Lori of Essex Junction, VT and Kevin Myrick of Bridport; thirteen nieces and nephews; six grandnieces and grandnephews. 

    Kat was predeceased by her father, Frederick A. Myrick.

     A memorial service to celebrate Kat’s life was held Saturday, January 3, 2009, at Sanderson Funeral Home, 117 South Main St., Middlebury with Sister Gertrude Myrick, Sisters of Mercy, officiating.  Spring burial will take place in Bridport Central Cemetery.

    In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Helen Porter Healthcare Center Recreation Fund or to Steve Giard Fund, c/o Darwin Pratt, Pratt’s Store, Bridport.

Ronald William White

 

Vergennes - Ronald William White 47 died unexpectedly Wednesday December 31, 2008 at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

    He was born January 2, 1961 in Burlington the son of William and Esther (Martell) White.

    Ronald drove for many years for ACTR and made many friends whom will be missed dearly. Ron was a very giving and caring individual to many and all and would do anything he could to help his fellow man.

    Ron is survived by his wife Linda White of 28 years of Vergennes, a stepson Scott and Mary Whitney of Charlotte; grandchildren Korina, Starr, Dillian, Scott, Ronald, and Frederick; brothers, Ricky and Audrey White of Vergennes, Richard and Penny Clark of St. George, William and Betty Clark of Bristol; a sister Robin and Tim Warner of Panton; sister in laws Helen and Clifford Barrows of Vergennes, Shirley and Ray Barrows of St. George, Yvonne and Moe Lafrance of Milton, Chet Clark and Debbie of Bethel and Andy and Gloria Clark of Northfield, and Deanna Lunn and her husband Roger of Illinois.. Ronnie leaves many special cousins of whom were very important to him and will be missed. Many nieces and nephews who were more like his own children they will always have a special place in Uncle Bubbies heart.

    Funeral services were held on Monday January 5th at Victory Baptist Church in Vergennes. Interment was in Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Victory Baptist Church, Vergennes, VT 05491.
