2009 A Time For Conservative Perseverance

Tuesday December 30, 2008

By Lydia Solini (www.AstrologyByLydia.com)

Pluto makes a direct and long term ascent into conservative, structured Capricorn.  Many conservative values and laws will become a central theme in this country and around the world.  Since 1996 Pluto has been in Sagittarius which lessened the value of structure and accountability.  Our drive for years has been escaping through whatever means it took.

Now expect our government and the governments of other nations to take a more responsible role.  Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) will make many profound changes on outward and inner levels.  Our country a Cancer sun sign will also make many profound changes.  America will start to do business differently; by becoming shrewd.  Everyone will be searching to bring more stability into their lives including our government.  This is a period of conservative correction.  It will be powerful and last at least 10 years.

But as we focus on 2009 we will see our government adopt policies that worked before, this year will not seem particularly innovative but it will have a dominating urgency about it; issues must be undertaken and problems solved.   Practical matters will dominate every sector of life; if it doesn’t work it will be thrown out for something that does.  This is not be an overly sentimental year.  It is also a year that we should not procrastinate; our country or its citizens.  Take the bull by the horns and do what needs to be done!  Don’t wait for things to materialize if you need to do more tweaking; whether government, business, or personally, do what you can to make things happen.

Many things can become unearthed during Pluto transits; archeological finds may be great this year also expect things that have been hidden about governments, people in power and business to become public knowledge.

Capricorn is a karmic sign; which means it is concerned with the past and its effect on the future; during this time we will be more concerned with our actions and what effect those actions in the present will have on the future.  That is why I believe we will be heading toward conservation and energy efficiency in the United States and throughout the world with fervor.  As people turn away from practices that hurt the earth and themselves we will also start to think about our values.  The collapse of stock markets, real estate and banking industries tells me that we are in need of spiritual uplifting and a new set of values.  Major events in religion took place when Pluto was in Capricorn; the first Roman Pope headed the Catholic Church, Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire, Western and Eastern Orthodox Churches split; the Protestant Reformation of England split the Catholic Church again.  Buddhism was also founded during Pluto in Capricorn transits.  I feel that we will not be building more churches or creating more religions but we will be questioning whether or not our spiritual approaches to life are working; if our values equal our practices.  Our government will be doing the same thing by questioning its current practices and seeing if these practices stay in keeping with our original constitution.

Our government will need to keep a sharp eye on countries around the world as political unrest and failing governments can become prey to conquest and wars.  Peace keeping organization such as NATO and the United Nations will be instrumental for averting future confrontations.  Ostracizing countries is not the answer to controlling them.  Most conflicts will come from a lack of communication and the refusal to give in on small technicalities more than anything else.  Obviously the way to avoid issues is to keep open dialogues and choose our battles carefully.

In the field of science and industry I expect this to be a major time of accomplishment.  Hard work and efforts will bring forth major changes.  The Industrial Revolution started when Pluto was in Capricorn; this time it will bring new industries concerned with green technology; creating things to use for green technology and also using green methods to manufacture.  We will see great changes in how we view and treat common diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes and aging.

In January 2009 Jupiter will be transiting our nation’s Moon in Aquarius.  This should lighten the mood of our nation and put an emphasis on our faith and charitable interests which bring help to others.  Our focus will be more expansive towards business and as we get closer to April 2009 we should see an increase in jobs.  Health care will become a major issue for our government to focus on and I do believe that a health care reform will be enacted sometime in 2009.  Americans will also focus more on their own individual health and take some positive action on a personal level.

As our nation has its next birthday (July 4, 2009) it will move into a more stable time.  One which is about building foundations, businesses, though cautious will run more smoothly, the stock market will stabilize more, efficiency will become greater, restrictions and controls will be imposed.

With Neptune transiting the 10th house of the United States honor and integrity, status and credit power have been and will continue to be a challenge for us as a nation and its people.  But with effort and the focus of President elect Obama we will strive towards more integrity and transparency which will change the current situations.  Personally, we can certainly put our focus on what we need to correct as well which will help our country.

The transits of Saturn to our nation’s Mars and Neptune will help us look at our actions as a nation; it will help us redefine our goals and dreams.  We all need to look at this as well.  Actions and right intention will be at the forefront of political endeavors now and this will bring about a renewed sense of optimism that things will change for the better.

Mercury will Retrograde (go backwards) three times in the New Year.  This is not usually a cause for concern unless your Mercury is conjunct, squared, or opposing transiting Mercury.  The first Retrograde will happen January 1 to 20 when Mercury will retrograde in Aquarius.  As it keeps retrograding it will move into Capricorn from January 21 to 31.  The second Retrograde will happen May 7 to 13 when Mercury will retrograde in Gemini.  As it keeps retrograding it will move into Taurus from May 21 to 30.  The third Retrograde will happen September 7 to 17 when Mercury will retrograde in Libra.  As it keeps retrograding it will move into Virgo September 18 to 28.

Venus will Retrograde (go backwards) March 6 into Aries until April 11.  During this time it will be important that all the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) to deal with their desires and goals carefully.  It is a time when expressing your goals to others maybe important to attaining them.

Mars has a direct route through the signs of Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, and Leo.  As with all transits of Mars it is a time when we want to take action, make decisions and take risks; do so cautiously when Mars is transiting your Sun or Moon.

As mentioned above Jupiter enters Aquarius January 6 and will be there all year; so all the Fixed Sun signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) will need to expand their viewpoints as will as focus of what really relates to their values at this time.  It can be a great time to make changes that relate to your inner beliefs.  Also the fixed signs will feel the need to reach out more to others and ask for help; this is a great thing since you are all so independent.

Saturn continues in Virgo until October 29.  It will be retrograding from January1 to May 16.  This will have all the Mutable Sun signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) retracing their conversations, plans and desires.  You will still need to figure out what you really think is important this year so make this your priority.

Uranus continues in Pisces until the end of 2009.  It will be retrograding from July 1 to November 30.  During this time all the Mutable Sun signs especially Pisces will need to look at their behavior in stressful situations.  You may all find things changing suddenly or you may need to make changes in your life rather than coast along.

Neptune continues in Aquarius until the end of 2009.  It will be retrograding from May 26 to November 26.  This will be a time for all Fixed Sun signs to make careful decisions and communications.  Have contracts looked over carefully by legal professionals.  Don’t make important commitments if things are really not right.

As we move forward into the New Year it is my hope that you will feel a sense of connection with others and when more fortunate you will lend a hand.  I also hope you will feel more optimistic about your future.  Have a healthy, happy New Year.
