Mary Stuart Parks
Middlebury-Mary Stuart Parks left this life on Friday, December 5th, 2008, at Dartmouth Hitchcock after suffering a bout of pneumonia.
Mary was born Feb 4, 1939, in Sheldon Springs,Vt., the daughter of Harold Parks and Hattie Vancor.
Mary graduated from Mount St. Joseph’s Academy in Rutland. She was a photo assistant and administrative assistant at Ecole Champlain.
She continued her career as a cottage parent at Weeks School in Vergennes until it’s closing. Then she was case aid worker, social worker, and later a special investigator for Social Rehabilitation Services until she retired from the state in 2002. She was also a published poet and a staff writer at the Valley Voice Newspaper.
She dedicated her life to those children and families who needed special guidance. Her retirement did not end her commitment.
Mary was a good friend and long time contributor to the Addison County Humane Society. She made thousands of cat mats for the animals. She was a member of the Board of Directors for Addison County Court Diversion.
She is survived by a son Stephen Strong of Vergennes, a son Derrick Strong and his wife Mindy of Campton, New Hampshire. Three very special grandsons Ethan, Justin & Geoffrey. Two half sisters Sylvia and Karen, Two half brothers Francis, and Butch, also several nieces. She is also survived by hundreds of close friends and the crew at Rosie’s.
Mary was predeceased by her mother and her adored father.
