It is with a great deal of sadness that we at The Valley Voice have lost a dear friend and associate Mary Stuart Parks. Mary was a skilled and thoughtful writer for our publication she had a keen sense of Vermont and Addison County history. Her weekly column “Around and About Addison County,” gave all of us a wonderful connection with the past and what times were like in bygone years.
Mary had an ability to remember events with vivid clarity and her interviewing skills were a true gift. she was always willing to share with all of us who were fortunate enough to be associated with her. We also received many favorable comments about her work from our readers. She was able to attract a very loyal following in a very short period of time.
Recently Mary suffered a terrible bout with pneumonia and unfortunately she was unable to recover. She passed away peacefully on friday afternoon, December 5th, 2008, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Hospital. She will be missed by all of us here at the Voice and never forgotten.
Many of our readers enjoyed her style of writing. It was clear and to the point, no wasted words, and words that were well chosen to express a point. The paragraphs flowed freely and were full of factual information. You could tell she loved being a writer. She was a master of using the internet as a research tool thus blending her considerable knowledge with the endless possibilities of the web. She loved books and was a constant reader. Mary was also a published poet. If you asked her a question about Addison County and its people she always seemed to know the answer right off the top of her head. She was one of a kind. we have lost a special person with a unique talent at our Valley Voice Newspaper.
