“... We entered the lake... Continuing our course over this lake on the western side, I noticed, while observing the country, some very high mountains on the eastern side, on top of which there was snow.”
(From the journal of Samuel de Champlain, July 1609:
http://www.historiclakes.org/S_de_Champ/S_de_Champlain.html).

Time travel was possible on Friday and Saturday in Vergennes. Past, present and future came together to commemorate and celebrate the French Heritage and culture that is so much a part of life in Vermont . On the Town green, on the river, and through out the streets French culture came alive. Music, food, crafts, joined hundreds of visitors, re enactors and people from both sides of the border in the second French Heritage celebration. You could meet Samuel de Champlain, dine on fresh French baguettes, tap your toes to the music and dance of Quebec, read, research and make connections with French heritage, or just enjoy all the venues with your family and friends. Congratulations to all that made the event possible and reminded us all of the strength of the connection between our two countries and two heritages.
