Eleanor E. Danyow

   Vergennes - Eleanor E. Danyow, 89 passed away Sunday July 6, 2008 at Claude and Bernadette LaBerge Private Care Home in Vergennes.

   She was born November 13, 1918 in Monkton the daughter of George and Mable LaFlam.
Eleanor was a Beautician by trade for 30 years upon retiring from being a Beautician, she worked at Simmonds/Precision/ Goodrich for 15 years and then Shaws Supermarket until she was 87.

   Eleanor and Bob enjoyed many outside activities such as snowmobiling, motorcycling, camping, and horse shows.

   Eleanor was loved by all who met her and enjoyed telling stories of her interests and past travels. She was known for her love of animals and loved to talk about horses.

    A special thank you is to be extended to the wonderful care provided to her for the past 19 months by Bernadette and Claude LaBerge and their families. Eleanor enjoyed the many road trips and wonderful food at Bernie’s.

   Eleanor is survived by her daughter Tamar and her husband Mark Begley and her beloved Morgan horse Hannah; brothers and sisters, Howard LaFlam, Earl LaFlam, Arlene Cunningham, Bobbie LaFlam, Joanne Ploof, and Gloria James; sister in law, Ruthie LaFlam, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Robert Danyow, son Timothy Danyow, her sisters Helene LaFlam, Mildred Miller, a brother Kenny LaFlam.

   A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. on Friday July 11th at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Vergennes. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery in Vergennes. Friends may call at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes on Thursday July I0th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Addison County Humane Society Shelter, Boardman Street, Middlebury, VT 05753.   

Arthur V. Flanagan

   Vergennes - Arthur V. Flanagan 83 of Vergennes, VT died at home after a long illness surrounded by his family. He was born to Patience L (Coes) Flanagan and father, Francis M. Flanagan in the Panama Canal Zone on August 14, 1924. As a member of an Army family, he lived at Ft. Devens , MA; Ft McPherson, GA; Ft Meade, MD; Schofield Barracks, HI and in Cedar Rapids, IA.

   He graduated from Franklin High School in Cedar Rapids in 1942 and enlisted in the United States Army in December of that year. He was trained as a Radio Technician at the Armored School, Ft. Knox, KY and upon completion was assigned to the 742d Amphibious Tank Battalion at Fort Ord , CA and rose to Technician 4th Class. His unit was preparing for the invasion of Japan when the war ended. During his service he was awarded The American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal , and The World War II Victory Medal, and qualified as Expert in the rifle He was separated with an Honorable Discharge in February 1946.

    Flanagan returned to Cedar Rapids and enrolled at Coe College , majoring in zoology and psychology and graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1950.

   He rejoined his family in the Peabody, MA and worked in sales and electronics repair and with CBS Hytron in Danvers, MA. , until 1961 when he took a position as a Industrial Engineer at Simmonds Precision in Vergennes. Flanagan was a member of St Peter Church in Vergennes and an active member of the American Legion having become a Life Member and served as Post Commander, Post 14 and subsequently as First District Commander.

   He was married to Rita A. Kingsley in 1953, Rita predeceased him in 1978. In 1980 he married June E (Warren) Parot of Vergennes.

   He was predeceased by his brother Francis J., LTC, USAF Ret, two sisters: Elizabeth L. South, of Salem, MA; and Joan L. Goad of Aiken, SC.

   Surviving family includes two brothers Robert W. LTC USA Ret, Lexington, MA and Eugene P., Col, USA Ret, Falls Church, VA and a sister, Patience J Soper, Salem, NH

   As well as numerous nieces and nephews, his wife June; his children, Kathy, Ellen, Arthur Jr. and Sharon; his grandchildren, Lori, Richard, Jamie, Lacy, Hanah, Stacey, his great grandchildren, Brandon, Colby, Cora and Rory and a great, great granddaughter, Brianna.

   He will be remembered and missed for his love of a well told story, his wisdom and sage advice. He had a terrific capacity for humor, affection and making you welcome. He had a superb command of classical music, and all the kids "concocting the speakers of the stereo", especially those resounding Beethoven finales.

   He could quote from literature and poetry; it would never cease to amaze us how he could quote something on any subject or occasion.

    He was a wise, insightful and creative man of generous spirit who will be greatly missed.

Friends called at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes on Sunday July 13th.
