Bill Edson has joined the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association as the organization's new Supervisor of Operations.   Mr. Edson will be responsible for the day to day management of personnel, technical and physical resources, facilities and equipment, and other duties associated with maintaining a professional community based pre-hospital care organization.

Mr. Edson is not new to a position of such responsibility.  He has over twenty years of experience managing medical personnel while serving in the United States Army, US Army Reserves, and Vermont Army National Guard.  Perhaps most notable was his recent service as Medical Non Commissioned Officer in Charge while on an 18-month deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom with Vermont's Task Force Saber.  Mr. Edson, then Sergeant First Class Edson, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, The Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Medical Badge for his service and actions during combat operations in Iraq.  He is now honorably retired from the Army.

Mr. Edson also brings a strong sense of business and medical supply management to MVAA.  He has eight years of combined experience as a corporate representative and independent distributor for several brand-name medical supply manufacturers.

Mr. Edson comes to MVAA not only with management skills but a vast history of patient care experiences, qualifications, and past credentials.  Such qualifications and credentials included National Registry and Vermont certifications as an EMT-B with additional certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support, Trauma - Advanced Intervention Management, Combat Casualty Care Management, Sports Injury Fist Aid, and various levels of FEMA and Homeland Security course completions.  Mr. Edson graduated twice from the United States Academy of Health Sciences (Fort Sam Houston, Texas) with technical diplomas as an Operating Room Specialist and Health Care Specialist.  He also worked over sixteen years as a Surgical Technologist in the US Army, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury, and at Fletcher Allen in Burlington.

Bill has lived in Middlebury since 1988 where he and his wife, Carol, have raised their five children and still reside.  He is a dedicated and active community member and currently also serves as the Chairman for the Middlebury United Methodist Church Administrative Council, the Varsity Track and Field Coach at Middlebury Union High School, and has recently been appointed by Governor Douglas as a member of the Vermont Veterans' Home Board of Trustees.
