Doris J. Poirier Zalubski

Vergennes - Doris J. Zalubski, 69, of Vergennes died Sunday, April 13, 2008 surrounded by her family after a lingering illness.

   She was born in Burlington on May 23, 1938, the daughter of the late Frank E. and Della M. (Cote) Poirier.

   Doris attended Burlington city schools.

   She worked for many years at Shelburne Corporation, before moving to Vergennes.  She worked until retirement at Goodrich in Vergennes.

   Family was very important to Doris.  Until her illness she would prepare weekly Sunday dinner in which all were invited.  Over the years family and friends old and new would gather to enjoy the good food and company.  Doris had a big heart and would open her home to anyone who needed a place to stay and a warm meal.

   Doris is survived by her daughter Helene Renee Zalubski of Brandon; her son Randy and his wife Debbie of Maine; her granddaughter Lacey Zalubski of Maine.  She is also survived bye her brother Donald Poirier of Kentucky and her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Livingston of Winooski.  Doris leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as many friends in the community including her special friend Jeanne Greene.  She was predeceased be her mother and father; her sister Connie Benway; and her brothers Robert, Richard and James Poirier.

   Doris’ family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the Addison County Agency on Aging, Addison County Home Health and Hospice, Jason and Jamie Bailey-Warner and their sister Amy.

   A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Thursday, April 17 at St. Peter’s Church.  Interment will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.     For those who wish, donations can be made in Doris’ memory to United Cerebral Palsy, 1660 L Street, NW Suite 700, Washington, DC 20036.

Louise Hutchins

LincolN - Louise Hutchins 89, passed away Sunday April 13, 2008 at her home in Bristol.                                                                                                       

   She was born March 8, 1919 in West Topsham, VT the daughter of Fremont and Bernice (Ciley) Hutchins.                                                       

   She was a member of Lincoln United Church and Rebekahs.

   Predeceased by her husband Marshall Hutchins in 1996.

   Louise is survived by her son Roy Hutchins and companion Sandra Rhodes of Lincoln; two grandchildren, Mary L. Hutchins of Starksboro; Reta K. Bell of Lancaster, Ohio; four great grandchildren, Maria Bedell of Starksboro, Tracy Bedell of Starksboro, Kaden and Mckenna Bell of Lancaster, Ohio; one great great granddaughter Nevaeh; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Leona, husband William Wells,and brother Douglas Welch.

   Funeral services were held on Thursday April 17th at Lincoln United Church. Interment will be in Maple Cemetery in Lincoln.  

Patricia M. Thorpe

 

Bridport - Patricia M. Thorpe, 73, passed away Tuesday April 15, 2008 at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury surrounded by her family.

   She was born March 17, 1935 in Ferrisburgh, the daughter of Robert and Rachael (Jerome) Brooks.

   Predeceased by her husband Harry Thorpe February 24, 2005.

   Patricia is survived by eight children, Larry Thorpe of Weybridge; Mike Thorpe and Lynn of Bristol; Tim Thorpe and Darlene of Middlebury; Linda Dempsey and James of Lincoln; Ronnie Thorpe and Joan of Starksboro; Bill Thorpe; Paula Mitchinson of Bennington; Loyal Thorpe and Pam of Bridport; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; a sister Harriet Bushey of Vergennes; 2 brothers Stuart Barrows of Grand Isle; Bill Barrows of Florida. Predeceased by her daughter Rosemary Sizemore.

   A graveside service was held on Saturday April 19th at Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family, Loyal and Pam Thorpe, 271 Torrey Lane, Bridport, VT 05734.

MARGARET M. SANCHEZ

Middlebury - Margaret M. Sanchez, 40 of Middlebury died at Porter Hospital unexpectedly on Tuesday April 15,2008.  She was born October 6, 1967 in Daly City, CA   daughter of the Jose Sanchez of Redwood City, CA and the late Elinor Sanchez of Middlebury.

   After graduating from MUHS she earned degrees from both Randolph Macon Women’s College and George Mason University in VA.  She taught elementary school in Virginia, Maine and Vermont.

   Margaret was very loved and immersed into her community. Her passion was literacy. She worked with several literacy programs with the schools and llsley Library.  She also volunteered at the Ronald MacDonald house in Burlington.  Margaret’s second passion was food & cooking.  She enjoyed her current employment with Otter Creek Bakery and making all kinds of international cuisines and sharing them with her friends and neighbors.  Margaret was very kind hearted and willing to help and share with anyone she could. She will be dearly missed by all.

   She is survived by her children Mallory Pipich, Madelyn, Meilena and Marshall Sanchez all of Middlebury, her sister and brother in law Monica Sanchez Webb and Stephen Webb and a brother Stephen Sanchez of Warren.  She leaves many aunts, uncles and cousins.

   A celebration of Margaret’s life was held Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the Universal Unitarian Church in Middlebury.  A memorial mass will be held at a later date to be announced at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Middlebury. Interment will be in St. Paul’s  Catholic Cemetery, Orwell.

   In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Sanchez Children Fund and sent to the attention of Barbara Bourne at Mary Hogan Elementary, Middlebury VT. 05733

Anna Mae (Steady) Smith

Bristol-Anna (Steady) Smith, 74, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2008 after a long illness. Anna was born at home in Hancock. Vermont on June 23, 1933. Anna lived in Durham, NC a number of years returning to Vermont in the fall of 1981.

    She was employed by Simmonds Precision/Goodrich Corp in Vergennes for several years and worked part-time at Wake Robin in Shelburne. She retired from Simmonds Precision in the late nineties and Wake Robin in 2004. She enjoyed her retirement years with her family and friends immensely.

    Her 2 daughters, 3 sons, 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews survive Anna. Her daughters and their families are: Diana (Steady) Merrill and her daughter Tina Marshall, Tina (Steady) and Peter Bouvier and their children Kari Bouvier-Griner and Ryan Bouvier. Her sons and their families include: Leo Charles (Chucky) and Jackie Steady and their children Chuck Allen and Skylar Steady, Chad Fischer and Lynn Fischer; Larry and Sandra Steady and their children Shawn, Chris and Kelly May; and Garry and Melody Steady and his daughters Jamie Lynn and Ashley.

    She also leaves 2 sisters, Helen Wakefield of Rochester, VT and Mary Knapp of Bethel, VT and 2 brothers Robert Norton of Hancock, VT and Wallace Everett of Tunbridge, VT. Anna's parents, Robert Norton and Gertrude Fleming Everett and brother William Norton have predeceased her.

    Anna's family would like to extend their thanks to Starr Farm Nursing Center for the compassion and tender care given to our mother during her illness. Donations, in lieu of flowers, in Anna's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association at: One Kennedy Dr, So. Burlington, VT 05403.

   A graveside service will be celebrated at Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.

Frederick E. LaBarre

Bristol- Frederick E. LaBarre, 79 died Thursday April 17, 2008 at Fletcher Allen Healthcare in Burlington following a short illness.

        He was born November 12, 1928 in Ithica, New York the son of Frederick and Bertha Hughes LaBarre.

         Frederick is survived by four children, John LaBarre of Chapaqua, NY; James LaBarre and wife Karen and their daughter Grace of Pawling, NY; Richard LaBarre and wife Christine of Duxbury; Catherine LaBarre and companion Bob Armstrong of Bristol.

       A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday April 24th at Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol. Friends may call at Brown McClay Funeral Home in Bristol on Wednesday April 23rd from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, 4472 Basin Harbor Road, Vergennes, VT 05491 or charity of your choice.
