Alice M. Clark

Lincoln— Alice M. Clark 68 passed away Wednesday January 2, 2008 at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

   She was born February 26, 1939 in Lincoln, the daughter of Clifford and Hazel Clark Pecott.

   Predeceased by her husband Lynwood Clark Sr. in 2002.

   Alice is survived by her four children, Marlene Benway and husband Jonathan of Bristol; Lynwood Clark and Patty of East Middlebury; Lawrence Clark of Lincoln; Frederick Clark of Lincoln; three grandchildren Jonathan and Aaron Benway, and Thomas Clark; several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by a brother Leroy Clark.

   Special thanks to the staff at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury and her physician Dr. Edward Clark.

   Funeral services were held Friday January 4th at Lincoln United Church. Interment will be in Maple Cemetery in Lincoln. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center 30 Porter Drive Middlebury, VT 05753, or Lincoln United Church 23 Quaker Street Lincoln, VT 05443.

A. Elizabeth (Betty) Fuller

 

Beverly Commons, MA— A. Elizabeth (Betty) Fuller died January 2, 2008 at home in Bristol.

   She was 101 years old. Born July 22, 1906, daughter of Zeno Elwell and Mirinda Jane-Willett of Essex, Mass.

   Predeceased by three husbands, William Edward Saunders, Roy Shannahan, and George Fuller.

   She worked 22 years at United Shoe Machinery Corp. in Beverly, Mass.

   In late life she enjoyed traveling throughout Canada, Europe, and Asia.

   She is survived by a son, William E. Saunders of Bristol; a daughter Madelyn Willett Mann of Conn.; a brother David Elwell of Mass.; grandchildren, William Dean Saunders and Gertrude of Maryland; Lee Saunders of New Haven; Todd and Barbara Saunders of Bristol; Cheryl and Danny Heath of Bristol; Tom and Sibylle Saunders of Middlebury; Hal Saunders of Lincoln; Eugene, Jonathan, and Christopher Mann of Conn.; 12 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; 4 nieces and a nephew. Predeceased by a brother Gilman Elwell, and a sister Mary Lillis.

   Burial services will be at First Church at Wenham, Mass in the spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions should be directed to Beverly Hospital, Asthma Control Unit, Beverly, MA, or 1st Church Wenham, MA.

ANDREW KOLL

 

EAST MIDDLEBURY— Andrew J. Koll, born April 23. 1929, in Baltimore, Md., the only son of Andrew and Margaret Reil Koll, passed away on Dec. 25, 2007.  A sister. Doris Stahley, predeceased him in the 1990s.

   Andrew attended Baltimore Poly Tech in his teen years, and graduated from Johns Hopkins University majoring in electrical and electronics engineering.  He earned his Ph.D. from Costal University in San Diego, California.

   Andrew loved to travel in Europe, especially in the countries of Italy, Turkey, Greece and Portugal.  He was a partnership owner of a computer filament business named Central Service Corp. in Alexandria, Va.

   Thereafter he began to travel coast to coast in the U.S. as a consultant reliability aerospace engineer for government projects developing military airplanes.

   He was on a lead team of aerospace reliability engineers working on the development and testing of the V22 Osprey, which can be flown either as a helicopter or conventional military aircraft.

   An assignment in the 1980s brought him to Vermont to Simmonds Precision in Vergennes.  Upon the closing of Simmonds, Andrew worked on assignments for Boeing on the East Coast until his retirement in the 1990s.

   While growing up, he learned to love the water and spent much time on his own boat on the Delaware Bay.  He also enjoyed skiing in his earlier days.

   He had a penchant for opera and ballet.  Another penchant that he harbored in his heart was his love of animals, especially dogs.  Andrew was a remarkable, learned, knowledgeable, brilliant man.  He was a master of myriad of topics.  He loved and appreciated good books and was an avid reader.

   Although he had no children of his own, Andrew lovingly acquired the three grandchildren born into his wife’s family.  He was very proud of their achievements.  They were the greatest love and admiration of his life.  The relationship was reciprocal.

   He is survived by his wife, Maryelizabeth Malzac of East Middlebury, whom he married Feb. 16, 1985; a nephew, Larry Stahley of Baltimore, a niece, Debbie Ebert and husband Otto-Erwin of Gloon, Germany; stepsons, Alan J. Murray of Norcross, Ga., Carl Murray and wife Kelley of Bristol, and Eric Murray and companion Erika Rhodes of East Middlebury; grandchildren, Dagan Murray of Monkton, Lucas Murray of East Middlebury, and Shauna Parker and husband Eric of North Clarendon; and several cousins, nephews and nieces.

   A memorial service was held on Saturday, Jan. 5 at the United Methodist Church in East Middlebury with the Rev. Jill Robinson officiating and the Rev. Wayne Holsman assisting.  

   Donations may be made to the Vermont Kidney Association c/o Rutland Regional Medical Center or the Fletcher Allen dialysis unit.

Ethel M. Palmer

 

MIDDLEBURY—Mrs. Ethel M. Palmer, 81, formerly of Whiting died Thursday evening January 3, 2008 at Porter Medical Center.

   She was born February 12, 1926 in Middlebury the daughter of Kent & Ada (Grey) Kirby.

   Ethel was a life member of the Libanus Lodge Order of Eastern Star # 47 of Bristol, and a member the Whiting Cemetery Association.

   She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, an avid reader and loved to crochet.

   Ethel Married William G. Palmer at the East Middlebury Methodist Church in 1945.

   She is survived by her three children, Alan Palmer & his wife Corrie, of Panton, Neal Palmer & his wife Suzanne, of Shoreham, Lois Deitz & her Husband Steven, of Brandon, by her eight grandchildren, Mark Palmer, of Griswold, CT, Bruce Palmer, of Colchester, Karen (Palmer) Robinson, of Essex Jct, Katie Trombley, of Whiting, Jessica Trombley, of Leicester, Brian Palmer, of Cary, N.C., Kyle Deitz and Levi Deitz both of Cambridge, NY, sister in law Betty Austin, of Proctor, by her five great-grandchildren, and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

   Ethel was predeceased by her husband William G. Palmer who died January 7, 1988 also by her brother, Wayne Austin, and her sisters, Faith Smith, Helen Richardson and Jessie Dahlin.

      Funeral services were held on Monday January 7, 2008  at the East Middlebury Methodist Church. The Rev Jill Robinson will officiate.

   In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Whiting Volunteer Fire Dept. at Stickney Rd, Whiting, Vt 05778, or to the Addison County Home Health & Hospice at P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753 Arrangements are under the direction of Sanderson Funeral service.
