On Sunday December 9, 2007 at around 5:00p.m. the Middlebury Police Department responded to a report of an alleged attempted child abduction from a residence on Weybridge Street in Middlebury, Vermont. The incident was reported to have occurred some 15-20 minutes prior to police notification. The incident involved a 9 year old female, a 11 year old male, and an undetermined male adult. The reported incident occurred as the female was playing outside the residence with her brother. the brother was at the back of the residence at the time of the incident. The children were home alone at the time of the incident without any adult supervision.

The female reported that a male, described as a tall skinny male, wearing blue jeans, a black winter jacket and dark colored winter hat, grabbed her from behind as she was walking towards the back of the house. She turned around thinking it was her brother at first, but when she saw it was not she screamed and started running towards the house. She reportedly tripped and fell on the ground and the male tried to grab her feet. She kept kicking and after being able to get back up ran into the house. The brother heard her scream while he was on the back porch. He saw someone trying to grab his sister’s foot. He then ran inside and locked the door.

A canvas of the neighborhood by the responding officers did not locate any persons matching the description, nor did the neighborhood canvas reveal any further leads or information.

There is nothing to indicate that this incident is related to any other activity in the community and is seen as a one time event..
