John “Mike” Richmond

Panton - John “Mike” Richmond, 60, of Panton died peacefully Tuesday August 7 at his home with his family by his side after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

     He was born in Barre, VT on January 6, 1947 to the late Frederick Richmond and Doris (Hurd) Paquette.

    He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Sonya Sorenson and their son George Richmond.  He is also survived by Sonya’s sister Kara Sorenson of Vergennes who was raised by Mike and Sonya.  He leaves behind his former wife Marguerite Clark of Bridport and their children Ben Richmond of Charlotte and Elizabeth, her husband Jay Falvey and their son Jamison of Shelburne. His brothers Roger Richmond and wife Mary of Charlotte, Dean Richmond and his wife Julia of Cornwall.  Also leaves behind a sister in law Marie Richmond of Florida and many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his brother Frederick “Leigh” Richmond, and his stepfather Harvey Paquette.

    Mike served his country in Vietnam as a sergeant in the US Army where he was awarded the Purple Heart.  For the past 30 years Mike was part owner of J&A Enterprises/Valley Auto Salvage of Charlotte where he enjoyed meeting with his customers and friends each day.

    Mike enjoyed sailing on Lake Champlain, scuba diving in Bonaire, and spending time with his grandson Jamison and his dog Ruby.

    Visiting hours were held Thursday evening  in the Brown McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes.  The funeral services were held in Brown McClay Funeral Home on Friday August 10th at.  Burial followed at North Ferrisburg Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Addison County Humane Society, 198 Boardman St. Middlebury or the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vergennes PO Box 356 Vergennes.
