BEVERLY EDITH (BARDEN) FULLER

VERGENNES - Beverly Edith (Barden) Fuller, wife of Robert W. Fuller, 61 New Haven Road, resolutely relinquished her soul and earthly life to our heavenly Father Wednesday June 5, 2007, at 2:20 PM EDT. Her devoted husband and three daughters were by her side in her beloved Vergennes home following seven continuous weeks of hospitalization. Unsuccessful
attempts to treat complications following a myocardial infarction induced repeated suffering and episodes of intense pain that she would no longer tolerate despite hospice services.

Beverly was the daughter of Nelson G. and Eva G. (Thomas) Barden of Kingfield, Maine, where she was born January 11, 1925. The family moved to Wellesley, MA where two sons were born, Richard T. Barden, September 18, 1926 and Hubert N. Barden, July 20, 1932. Their father enrolled in the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and the children entered Wellesley Grade Schools. They resided there until the summer of 1938 when Pharmacist Nelson G. Barden purchased a drugstore in Gorham, Maine, moving his family to that community. Having attended eight years of grade school in Wellesley, Beverly attended a 9th grade junior high school year (1938) at Gorham, followed by three years of senior high school classes and graduation with honors in college preparatory classes in June 1942. She then enrolled in Westbrook Junior College for Women, Portland, ME, completing a medical secretary curriculum with distinction, receiving her diploma June 3rd, 1944. Beverly was predeceased by younger brother Hubert in 1981.

Beverly became engaged in 1943 to her high school sweetheart, Robert Fuller, who had enlisted in the US Army Air Forces. She joined him at Sebring, Fl, in December 1944 where he was training as a Lieutenant Pilot flying 4-engine B-17 bombers and they were married in the Sebring Methodist Church the evening of January 19, 1945; the wedding party included Air Force friends and wives, and a guest soloist who gave a beautiful a cappela rendition of BECAUSE. Transfer for overseas duty took them to Tampa, Fl, Kingman, AZ, and Hobbs, NM, followed by honorary discharge in October 1945 at the close of WW II.

Beverly remained steadfastly and unquestionably supportive of her husband during his undergraduate and graduate college training as a Biologist, finding personal employment to help stabilize family income. Moreover, she gave birth to three healthy and beautiful daughters, now married as Patricia Allen (to Burt), Robin Torrey (to Ralph), and Kathryn Dugan (to John) who were sources of very deep pride and immense enjoyment to their parents. During her husband's faculty tenure at UVM, Beverly worked as Assistant Librarian at the Vergennes Bixby Memorial Free Library. She became familiar by her happy, helpful services to children and adults of most of the Vergennes-Panton-Ferrisburg-Waltham-Addison community. Her pleasure at this work held her there 25 years until retirement coincident with her husband's on January 1, 1989.

Her favorite hobbies included a great love of reading novels and Good Housekeeping magazines; location and tracking of native wild flowers (including wild strawberries and raspberries); enjoying the beauty of a morning sunrise, an arch of rainbow, spectacular sunsets, a full moon rising; watching and identifying migratory birds (especially Canada geese); bird feeders for songbirds and mourning doves in the back yard; popular music and choral groups including Barbershop Quartets; fine arts and artwork; good television programs such as the Sunday Hallmark productions; short evening rides through the countryside and long travels through much of the United States, parts of Canada, and most of Oahu Island. Her love and patience with three growing daughters came with strict early home lessons in civility, kindness, fairness, proper manners and respect for elders and others; there was more leniency with ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren, but with insistence that each be treated fairly and equitably, and the love seemed endless.

Members of Beverly's family are extremely grateful for the many hours and loving kindnesses spent with Beverly by Addison County Home Health and Hospice friends; many lovely sympathy cards, personal calls, floral arrangements, and the very welcome and enjoyable food donations. A Memorial Service is being considered at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to Addison County Home Health and Hospice, Middlebury, or to Bixby Memorial Library, Vergennes, for children's books or other learning aids.
