HARMON A. WHITE

PANTON— Harmon A. White, 88 a life long Panton resident went to be with his lord on June 4, 2007 at Helen Porter Nursing Home.
   He was born on May 15, 1919 in Waltham the son of Warren E. and Bessie Fish White.

   Mr. White was employed by the Town of Panton for 35 years as both a Highway Foreman and Road Commissioner.

   During World War II he was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, which had an observation station on Sand Road.

   Harmon was a civic minded person who cared deeply about his town and townspeople. Upon retirement he served as a green-up volunteer and campaigned for Sen. Thomas Bahre and representative Connie Houston.

   He was a member of the Panton Community Baptist Church.

   Predeceased by his wife of 53 years Geraldine Lucia White in 2003.

   Harmon is survived by an adopted daughter Diane L. Brown and her fiance’ Mark Rivait of Panton; a sister Kathleen Brown of Burlington; a sister in law Beverly Freeguard and her husband Jim of Whiting; a niece Florence Hubbard of Essex Junction several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, his brothers Irwin, Dewey and Floyd, a sister Blanche and by an infant son David Francis White on June 10, 1942 from his first marriage to Virginia Hobbs.

   Special thanks to John and Gail Kerr, and little Anna who filled his last days with great joy.

   Pall bearers will be Roger Jackson, Steve White, Rob Cota, Gary Freeguard, Doug Freeguard, and J. Douglas Dows.

   Funeral services were held Thursday June 7th at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Vergennes. Interment will be in Kent Cemetery in Panton. Greg Carr

Bridport— Greg lost his long battle with cancer June 9, 2007. Leaving Sandy, his wife of 38yrs, 3 daughters, Robin Bushey, husband Shawn; Tammie Lumbra, husband Corey: Janelle Phillips, husband Anthony. A son Andy Carr, wife Stephanie. 9 grandchildren, TJ, Dillon, Phillip, Taylor, Reid, Ross, Sierra, McKenna, and Cheyenne.

   His mother Norma Carr, brother Pat Carr, wife Marlene, sister Shannon Dunbar, husband David, brother Richard Sabourin, wife Tanna and 2 sisters, Laura Lee Searle and Joanne Sabourin, several nieces and nephews.

   He was predeceased by his father Wayne Carr and sister Bonnie Randall, a special Aunt Kelly Sabourin.

   Calling hours at Victory Baptist Church in Vergennes, Monday June 11th between 6-8 p.m. With a memorial service at Victory Baptist Church in Vergennes Tuesday June 12th at 11 a.m. Interment services at Bridport Central Cemetery with fellowship to follow at Masonic Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Camp Fellowship Fund, Victory Baptist Church P.O. Box 160 Vergennes, VT 05491.

Wilfred J. Sabourin

Vergennes/Eustis, Florida— Wilfred J. Sabourin, 81 died Saturday June 9, 2007 at his family’s home in Monkton.

   He was born November 19, 1925 in Moose Creek, Ontario the son of Ernest and Emily Charlebois Sabourin.

   He married Gisele Ouellette in St Judes Roman Catholic Church on March 6, 1950. He worked on farms, owned his own farm and trucks.

   Wilfred is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gisele Ouellette of Vergennes; nine children, Roger and wife Terry Sabourin of California; Gerald and wife Betty Sabourin of Ferrisburgh; Paul and wife Beverly Sabourin of Monkton; Louie Sabourin of Virginia; Carol and husband Clifton O’brien of Tenn.; Lorraine and husband Dennis Gendreau of Colorado; Mark and  wife Vicky Sabourin of Virginia; Harmel and wife June Sabourin; 21 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; five brothers, Andrew, Lionel, Archie, Lucien, Edward and their wives all of Canada; numerous nephews, nieces, in-laws, and many friends.

   Predeceased by a son Lionel and nine brothers.

   A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. on Thursday June 14th at St. Judes Roman Catholic Church in Hinesburg. Interment will be in Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes. There will be on public calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Addison County Home Health & Hospice Route 7 Middlebury, VT 05753.

GORDON H. BROWN

Bristol— Gordon H. Brown 90, died Saturday evening, June 9, 2007, surrounded by his family at the Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

    He was born in Lyndon, VT on March 22, 1917 the son of Harold P. and Sylvia (Hovey) Brown.  He graduated from Richmond High School and Renaurds Academy in New York City.  He married Wilma Spaulding in the Baptist Church in Huntington on Aug 3, 1940.

    He was employed by his father, a funeral director in Richmond for 11 years.  In 1945, he and his wife bought the Varney Funeral Home in Bristol.  They founded an ambulance service in Bristol in 1946 and operated it until 1970 when the present Bristol Rescue Squad was formed.  In 1954, they bought the Larrow Funeral Home in Vergennes and in 1956 the Gaunya Funeral Home in Vergennes.  They were incorporated in 1977 as the Brown-McClay Funeral Homes in Bristol and Vergennes.

    Gordon was a member of the Bristol Federated Church where he held many offices over the years.  He was a charter member and past president of the Bristol Rotary Club.  He was a member of Libanus Masonic Lodge #47 F&AM for over 65 years and Libanus Eastern Star Chapter #47 both of Bristol.  Gordon was a member of the National Funeral Directors Assn. and past president of the Vermont Funeral Directors Assn.  He served as a director of the First National Bank of Bristol and on the Advisory Board of the Bristol branch of the Merchants Bank.  He also served on the State Board of Funeral Service and on the Bristol School Board.  He held several offices in his 60 years as a Trustee on the Bristol Cemetery Association.  He enjoyed his morning coffee at the bakery with the Old Pharts Club.

    He is survived by his wife of nearly 67 years, Wilma S. Brown, a daughter Brenda Lathrop and husband Donald of Bristol; three sons, Brian Brown of Monkton, Duane Brown of San Diego, CA, Craig Brown and his fiancée Claire Cyr of Ferrisburgh; two grandsons, Christopher Lathrop and wife Jennifer and their son Ryan and Jeffrey Lathrop and wife Alexis all of Bristol; two granddaughters, Aron Griggs and husband Brian of Essex and Shannon Rochon and husband Maurice of Bristol; two sisters, Doris Marshall of Jericho and Lois Riggs of Essex; a brother, Scott Brown of South Hero, a sister-in-law, Anne Brown of Westford and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his sister, Avis Heatherington and brother, Dr. Harold Brown.

    Gordon enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf in his retirement years.  He and Wilma enjoyed trips to Bermuda, Spain and Hawaii and other parts of this country and spent three months during the winter in Florida for several years.

    Gordon (Papa) had the biggest heart.  Through his work, which he loved, he touched the hearts and lives of many many people.  He was a very dedicated family man.  He enjoyed gathering with family and friends at Cedar Crest, his home and cabin in Lincoln.  He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.

    Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at the Bristol Federated Church.  Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol.  Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bristol Federated Church, 37 North St., Bristol, VT 05443 or Bristol Cemetery Assoc., P.O.  Box 132, Bristol, VT 05443.
