The Patricia Hannaford Career Center (North Campus) proudly announces that two of its students garnered the top two prizes in the Skills USA Diesel Competition held Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at the VT Air National Guard base in South Burlington, VT.  Morgan Lilly of Bridport,  son of Craig and Alana Lilly, won the first place Gold Medal for the second year in a row.  Ethan Verberg of Vergennes, son of Bo and Joanne Verberg, earned the second place Silver Medal in the state competition.

Skills USA is a national organization consisting of all secondary technical/industrial students attending career preparation programs throughout the nation.  Each state sponsors an annual competition that draws the top two students from each technology program in each technical center.  Three prizes are awarded at the state level - gold, silver, and bronze.  The gold medal winner then goes on to compete at a national competition to be held in Kansas City, MO the last week of June, 2007.  Thousands of students will compete there for college scholarships and national industrial recognition.

Morgan Lilly represented Vermont at the 2006 competition and finished fifth in the nation.  He is prepared to return this June and win the gold.  He will be assisted in this endeavor through his Co-op (Student Apprenticeship) placement at Green Mountain Kenworth in Shelburne, VT., where he works with mentor Ken Curler. Owner, Dave Stebbins feels Morgan is a very well-rounded, conscientious, sharp student who has a great deal of talent in the diesel field.  He also feels Morgan will face a really good challenge at the Kansas City national competition.

The Hannaford Career Center congratulates instructors Ray Pinson, Auto Tech, and Phil Teer, Diesel Tech, for preparing their students to excel in the VT competition, and we look forward to hearing of Lilly's and Verberg's successes in the diesel technology field.
