Addison County Chamber of Commerce Announces March Business of the Month

   March 2007 Business of the Month is Linda's Apparel and Gifts AND Addison Outfitters, located in Vergennes. The two businesses were chosen together since they are connected physically and work cooperatively in many ways.

     Linda's Apparel & Gifts is owned by Linda Cook and her husband Bruce Bishop. They opened their store in April of 2005. Linda had been in the retail clothing industry for 25 years, starting out in 1982 working for Fishman's in Vergennes. When the opportunity came up to rent the space when Fishman's was previously located years ago, Linda and Bruce jumped at the chance and Linda's Apparel & Gifts was opened!

     Linda and Bruce carry many different clothing lines, such as Very Vineyard, Tribal, Zutano, Prairie Cotton, Basic Treads, Nomadic Traders, Mulberribush and Healthex just to name a few. The store carries women's clothing from sizes XS-1X and carries children's clothing from newborn up to 6X/7. In addition to many clothing lines they carry, Linda and Bruce also have wonderful gifts that would delight anyone, from jewelry to scarves to hand lotions.

     The business is growing faster than Linda and Bruce expected, and they are currently in the process of having a website designed by Mark Favreau. The website, lindasapparel.com, will be up and running soon.

     Connected to Linda's Apparel and Gifts by an archway is Addison Outfitters, owned by Tim Hodson and his wife Amanda. Tim and Amanda opened Addison Outfitters in October 1999. Tim had previously worked for Neos Overshoes and then decided when the space became available to start his own business. Tim and Amanda carry predominantly men's, women's and kid's outerwear, with their main brands being Carhartt, Woolrich, Columbia, Duofold and Wigwam.

     Both Linda and Bruce and Tim and Amanda emphasize a “Co-operation not Competition” approach with not only each other but with other Vergennes retailers as well. They are in contact with other retailers on Main Street to compare what brands they carry as to not have two stores in a small city carrying the same brand. They also emphasize friendly, personal service.

     In addition to running their busy stores, Tim and Linda also are active in all the Vergennes events, including Vergennes Day, French Heritage Day and the Vergennes Holiday Stroll. Linda is a board member of the Vergennes Area Chamber of Commerce, and both she and Tim are very active on the Vergennes Promotion Committee.  

     Both Linda's Apparel & Gifts and Addison Outfitters are open Monday through Saturday from 9:30-5:30. They are also open on Sunday from May until December from 12-4. The Addison County Chamber of Commerce is proud to have Linda's Apparel & Gifts and Addison Outfitters as members and congratulates them both on being chosen as the March Businesses of the Month!
