The Vergennes boys played their first play-off game against the Lyndon Institute Vikings on Tuesday. In the first quarter, both teams stayed close, and played tough defense. The Vikings were able to pull away from the Commodores, 10-6. In the second quarter, Lyndon continued to play an extremely tough defense, and increase their lead. The half ended 21-11, Lyndon. The Vikings played in the same fashion, keeping the Commodores from gaining rebounds. The third quarter finished 33-19, Lyndon. And in the fourth quarter, Lyndon sealed a victory, storming past the Commodores. The final score was 27-48, Vikings. High scorers for Vergennes was junior Jesse Lalumiere with ten points and senior Joe Carter. For the Vikings, it was junior Logan Macomber with fourteen points. This loss ended the high school basketball careers of three Vergennes seniors. Nick Donnelly, Joe Carter, and Nate Merrill will be sorely missed by the athletic department, and their entire school.

On a brighter note, the Vergennes Varsity Cheerleading squad brought home their second straight Division II state championship this past weekend. They will compete in New Hampshire at the New England competition in two weeks.
