Vergennes Commodore Girls Win Division II Championship By Alexandra Larrow The Division II girls basketball play-offs were held on Saturday against the third ranked Vergennes Commodores (20-4) and the number one Mount St. Joseph Mounties (20-3). In the first quarter, Both teams stayed tight. The tough defense on both sides kept the score low, but MSJ was able to sneak by. The first quarter ended with a score of 8-6, Mounties. Vergennes Commodore Boys Basketball Advance to Semifinals By Chris LaFoy On Saturday, March 4th, Mount Abraham traveled to Vergennes to play in the second round of the Division II playoffs. The 2pm game attracted one of, if not, the biggest crowds to date in Vergennes. An hour before the game was scheduled to begin the line to enter the gym snaked through several hallways in Vergennes Union High School and consisted of hundreds of people. The bleachers filled to capacity quickly, so the remaining fans had to stand in the corners of the gym. The huge crowd was a testament to the rivalry these two schools have formed and the intensity that usually plays a key role in the games. [ more ]
Vergennes Commodore Boys Ousted by Fair Haven in Division II Semi-Finals By Alexandra Larrow The Vergennes boys played in the Division II semi-finals against the Fair Haven Slaters on Thursday at the Barre Auditorium. Fair Haven took control of the game in the first quarter. The ended the quarter with a score of 22-5, Slaters. [ more ]
MAHA girls U16 Hockey Team Sweeps RAHA Invitational Hockey Tournament The MAHA girls U16 hockey team swept the RAHA Invitational Hockey Tournament in Rutland on February 24-26th. The championship game on the 26th was against Rutland and it was a close one with the girls pulling out the win 4-3. [ more ]
Indoor Track States By Alexandra Larrow The Vergennes indoor track team had a successful day when they attended the state meet. First, the boys 4x800 team won their race, giving Vergennes their first medal of the day. The members of the relay, juniors Corey Melnick, and Joe Carter, along with seniors Theo Spencer and Mike Sorrell ran their way to victory with a time of 8:38.45. [ more ]
