Field Days 2007 Attracts Record Crowds

    The fact that it came and went with such speed belies the fact that it was another very successful week-long event for Addison County Fair and Field Days.
    Fair officials, exhibitors and vendors were blessed with sunshine and clear skies for most of the week and the fairgoers responded.
    “We were pleased to see the turnout. Gate receipts have been  a good indicator of how many attended over the years.  This year we have reason to believe at this point that approximately 45,000 people attended and that would be a new record for us,” explained Fair and Field Days President, Russ Carpenter.

Condition Of The Crown Point Bridge Causes For Concern

   Top to Bottom The base of a support truss on the Vermont side awaits a look from Vermont inspectors as inspectors from the New York Department of Transportation examine support structures under the New York side near Crown Point Reservation.  Both states have joined others across the country to inspect bridges in the wake of the collapse of the Interstate 35W Bridge in Minnesota.  [ more ]

Stanley Steamers Stop in Middlebury

   T.L.C. is key as members of a Stanley Steamer touring group display their cars at the Middlebury Inn on Thursday, August 16th 2007.  Venting steam with an ear piercing blast and preparing for show in the parking lot was exciting.  These wonderful old cars and their classic style and sound chuff, chuff, chuff, are an important part of American automotive history. One of the drivers explained how they heat the water. Stan said “the firebox used to be fired by wood or coal, but most of them have been converted to kerosene.”   [ more ]
