Celebrating 84 Christmas Seasons At Elgin Spring Farm

Earl Bessette was only two years old when his family crossed the railroad tracks and came up to the land that was to be his home for over eighty years. Elgin Spring Farm is just over the hill as the crow flies in New Haven and sits at a junction where a family began a farming tradition that has now passed to the third and fourth generations. It is the site where electricity came to the farm on July 26, 1946 after Earl’s father Solon spent the winter of 1945 digging holes, skidding poles with horses and securing the dead man anchors that allowed the new technology to come to New Haven. The farm was at the crossroads for changing ways and techniques in Vermont agriculture and in the hearts of Earl and Raymonde Bessette who have called it home for their sixty seven years of marriage, seven children, fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.  [ more ]

Tri-Town Water District Back On Line Conservation And Boil Water Order Issued As A Precaution

1600 residents of the Tri-Town Water District covering the towns of Bridport, Addison, and Shoreham were without water for a time after a major break occurred in a main service line near the plant and storage tank.  The break was discovered late Thursday evening, December 15th, 2016 and work crews began immediately to fix the problem but not before a large volume of water had escaped on to the plants service road and parking lot.

Local Wrestler Ties School Record For Most Wins

VUHS wrestling coach Scott Bissonette was in a unique position this past weekend as wrestling history was being made. On the mat was VUHS wrestler Brandon Cousino who was wrestling in the Granville Tournament. At the end of the match Cousino was victorious and had tied the 139 career wins of his coach.

Red Clover Kids Program Promotes Leadership, Community And Explores Science

Members of the Red Clover Kids program met with their mentors recently at the Echo Science Center in Burlington and explored the creative and enticing exhibits included in the museum. The youth between the ages of 5-12 were paired up with a young woman each from the Miss Vermont Scholarship Organization and explored shipwrecks, filmed weather forecasts, learned about the building talents of the tree frog and spent the afternoon together.  [ more ]
