All serious maple farmers will tell you that the sweet crop of Vermont maple is a mixture of the cold nights, sunny days, alternating freezing and thawing, and Mother Nature’s blessings for a good harvest. With over 200 different species of trees in the maple family, the sugar maple is a slow growing hard wood and with heights of over a hundred feet. Reaching great size and living to a ripe old age, the sap of a sugar maple has a higher concentration of sugar than the other maple trees and produces the best flavors of syrup.  [ more ]

Greg’s Market And Property Auction Held on March 2nd

The Greg's Market building and Pool World property went on the auction block on march 2, 2016. As publicized, representatives from Tranzon Auction Properties were on hand to accept bids. Several local and out of state parties participated in the auction of the once thriving community business, now vacant for almost a year.

Vermont State Oratorical Champion Alyse Beauchemin

On Saturday, March 5th, three students representing the best orators in the state competed at Middlebury College for the honor of representing Vermont at the national competitions in Indianapolis, Indiana in April. Representing Hartford High School was senior Mateo Ellerson, who will be attending college in Washington D.C. and majoring in Political Science. Representing Fair Haven Union High School was senior Charlie Cacciatore, who will be attending Middlebury College in the fall and majoring in history. Representing Vergennes Union High School was junior Alyse Beauchemin, who currently plans on attending wither UVM or RPI with a career in aerospace engineering.
