A Look Inside American Legion Middlebury Post # 27

Chartered in 1919, American Legion Post # 27 has been a staunch part of the Addison County Community for ninety-six years and is still going strong.  Founded with the charge of assisting the veterans and their families of America’s Armed Forces, Post # 27 is a gathering point for all ages of the community and walks of life. Sitting down with Post Commander Joe DeGray and looking over the Post calendar showcases part of the role played in the community by the post.

Sharing Memories Of Nursing With Pat Sheldon Smith

Pat Sheldon Smith was born in Waltham in 1934 during the Great Depression and seven years old when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and World War Two started. She came of age at a time of great change and turmoil, was raised by her grandparents along with her two sisters and one brother until her father’s return from the war and grew up with no distinction between girl’s and men’s work. “It was simply work,” shared Pat with a grin. “And we just did it. We milked, we hayed, we planted and harvested a huge garden and we canned pickles, jam, farm and we didn’t talk much about it. We just did it.”  [ more ]

Vergennes Rotary Sets Goals For A Busy Year

The Vergennes Rotary Club is embracing programs they have long supported and expanding their reach to new areas with a summer that includes Booked for Bikes, Rubber Ducky Races, Jail & Bail, Vergennes Day Events and programs for youth, community, and visitors. Club President CJ Herbert shared, “Our goals include continuing to encourage our youth. We are always looking for new ways to help the youth in our area and to partner with them in their efforts to make the world a better place.”
