Sharing Memories Of World War II With Sydney Parlow

At ninety-two years old Sydney Parlow’s handshake is strong and so is his ability to communicate across generations his reflections and memories of World War II. Sydney was born in the Boston area in 1922 and came of age as America entered the war. He was raised in Chelsea, Massachusetts in a family with three sisters and one brother and was a part of the generation that, as he expressed, “at that point every male of that time anticipated service and was proud to do it. It was almost an embarrassment to be seen in civilian clothing.”   [ more ]

Middlebury Tigers Shut Out Colchester In Division I Semi-finals

The Colchester Lakers returned to Middlebury’s Doc Collins field hoping to reverse a regular season loss to the unbeaten Middlebury Tigers in semifinal action Friday night.  The Lakers knew the odds were against them going up against a team that had allowed only 6 points in the four previous games and amassing 190 points of offensive scoring in the same period.   The Lakers won the toss and elected to receive the ball and get some momentum against the formidable Tiger defense.

Local Teens Thank Veterans Through Speech Contests

The Veterans of Foreign Wars holds two national speech contests that annually have more than a total of 140,000 student entries. Patriot’s Pen, a youth essay contest is open to grades six – eight and encourages the youth to examine patriotism from a modern perspective and write a 300-400 word essay on a selected theme.  [ more ]
