   On a wintry day afternoon in December 2012 Doctor Donald Bicknell walked out the door of the Little City Family Practice and quietly ended a career that spanned fifty years. Dr. Don, never one to seek the limelight simply retired and thought that he had closed the door on a memorable chapter of his life. Distinguished Young Woman Offers Local Seniors in High School Women Scholarship Opportunities

    The Vergennes Opera House will host a scholarship competition open to Vermont young women in their senior year of high school on Sunday, March 3rd. The event is sponsored by the Distinguished Young Woman (DYW) and signals the 58th year that this organization has offered scholarships to America’s young women. At present the organization has provided over 90 million dollars to over 700,000 young women participants based on the teen’s scholastic grades, interview skills, talent, fitness and self-expression. DYW awards college scholarships ranging from cash to tuition and room/board scholarships to a diverse group of colleges around the nation. There is absolutely no cost for the girls to enter.

The Sport Of Ice Fishing

    Winter signals for some Vermonters yet another season of outdoor activity. There is skiing, snowboarding, hunting, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and for the diehards there is the draw of frozen lakes and the season of ice fishing. It is easy to see how this love of fishing and winter combine together in the next generation of Vermonters. Ryan Valiquette shares his passion for the Vermont tradition of enjoying the winter months and having just another reason to grin when talking about Vermont.
