Sharing Memories With Prindle Wissler

    I first met Prindle Wissler many years ago at Downer 4-H Camp in Sharon, Vermont, where she was the resident arts and crafts instructor for five summers, and I’ve often thought of her over the years as the singular, artistic influence in my life. Yes, I did cut my fingers with the knife and, yes, all of my carvings resembled sawdust, but Prindle introduced me, as well as hundreds of other kids, to a creative process that has stuck with me for the past nearly sixty years. However, in the interest of full disclosure, no one would ever mistake me for any kind of an artist.

   Just yesterday a flurry of white iridescent flakes danced down onto the Vermont landscape and a groan of protest could be heard from the towns, villages and citizens of the Green Mountain State. Enough already, time for spring! And so time it is. While we are impatiently waiting for signs of the coming of green, Vermont is busy giving us a sneak peak for those who know where to look and what to look for.

America’s National Teenager Scholarship Organization Greets Two New Titleholders

   For Erika Evarts and Chelsea Grant, the spring, summer and their upcoming senior year will be anything but ordinary. Selected by a panel of judges for their grades, community service and school leadership, Erika and Chelsea were awarded the titles of Miss Vermont Outstanding Teenager and Miss Vermont Sweetheart for 2011 respectively. Both girls will compete in the national level competitions in Miami, Florida in July and will spend their senior year touring Vermont and speaking to groups about the uniqueness of this state and their own personal platforms of Thyroid Cancer and Arterial Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
