Ninety Years Strong: Sharing Stories with Cecile Booska-Blaise

    Blizzards bring out different reactions in all Vermonters. While the great-grandchildren were playing in the snow banks and the adults in the house were commenting on the rising snow banks and more on the way, Cecile Booska-Blaise calmly looked up from her knitting and started sharing memories of blizzards past. “Remember that storm when you and Mike were first married?” she questioned her daughter-in law- Marjorie. “You and Mike couldn’t make it out and had to stay with us in Bristol for awhile. You went to the store on snow machines that time. We got over three feet that time.” Looking back at ninety years of memories of New England winters Cecile wisely looked out the window and simply smiled because she had seen many storms more ferocious than the current Nor’easter dumping 18 inches of snow on the Champlain Valley.

Town Clerks Speak Frankly About Democracy

Women Town Clerks Of Vermont – Reflections On Democracy will be exhibited at the Vermont Folklife Center in Middlebury from February 1 – March 31st.  This unique exhibition created by New York-based photographer, Sandra Elkin, combines portrait photography and the voices of 19 women clerks to create a fascinating glimpse of who they are and their concerns. Whether plainspoken or boldly provocative, the “Clerks” challenge us as they speak openly and frankly of democracy, town meetings, the obligations of citizenship, state government, and their towns.  [ more ]

Local Students Earn Honors at Skidmore College
   The following local students earned honors for the fall semester at Skidmore College:
Sarah Keeney, Class of 2011. She is the daughter of Jeffrey and Lisa Keeney of Starksboro.
Jesse Watson, Class of 2011. He is the son of Linda Watson of Bristol.
Timothy Lueders-Dumont, Class of 2012. He is the son of Jim Dumont and Karen Lueders of Lincoln.
Sonia Hare, Class of 2013. She is the daughter of Steve and Shelly Hare of Middlebury.
