Linking Agriculture & Community: Sharing Memories With Helen Cobb

    Helen Cobb grinned and quickly did the math when asked to share how long she had been a member of the Grange. “Well, now,” she remarked. “I joined when I was fourteen and it will be sixty-four years this year. I am also a national member as well.” Sixty-four years of being linked to the land, farming and the people of Addison County through organizations like the Grange, makes sharing memories with Helen Cobb a piece of history that many Americans do not even know exists.

   When Stewart Brown and Robert McNamara met at the University of Kentucky they had plans. Plans for their future, plans for fun while they were at work at the Campus Bookstore and plans for a trip. The pair was only earning $ 1.25 an hour at the time but they shared a common love of the outdoors, canoeing and history. During those years of college there seemed to be endless hours of time and tomorrow was always just around the corner for preparing for those wondrous adventures, including a trip of momentous size and planning.

Pennies For Haiti

Leicester Central School is collecting pennies to donate to the American Red Cross to help the families of Haiti after the devastating earthquake last week.
 Our goal is to fill a large jug with pennies.  We are asking all Leicester children to donate pennies by adding them to the jug. We ask that children have permission from a parent/guardian before bringing in any pennies.  [ more ]

Ferry Service Set to Begin at Bridge

Free 24x7 Ferry Service provided the Lake Champlain Transportation Corporation near the site of the recently demolished Champlain Bridge was not running at press time, Sunday January 31st 2010, but officials hoped to be able to transport vehicles across the channel by Monday.  [ more ]
