Sharing A Life Long Passion For Learning: Mrs. Cathy Spaulding

    Cathy Spaulding was in the eighth grade when she remembered first, “…getting serious about knowledge for knowledge’s sake.” She would read a book by an author and then read the rest of the author’s works. She was also fascinated by history- from ancient to modern. “With a love of languages, music and art, it seemed natural to become a teacher,” recalled Cathy Spaulding. “Of course it didn’t hurt that my mother and three older sisters were teachers. Two were elementary teachers and two were in high school.”

11th Annual “Face Off Against Breast Cancer” Tournament to Be Held in Middlebury January 23rd and 24th

The Middlebury Otters and the Middlebury Mystix, two women’s community ice hockey teams, proudly host the 11th annual “Face Off Against Breast Cancer” hockey tournament on Saturday and Sunday, January 23 and 24, 2010, at the Howard Brush Memorial Sports Center in Middlebury.

Walking The Streets Of History: Making The D.C. Connection

The unusually bitter cold temperatures made the students feet move faster but did not quell the enthusiasm or wide-eyed wonder of the past weekend. The sophomore history trip to Washington, D.C. by twenty-five students from VUHS was one of connecting to and honoring America both past and present. The trip occurs every other year and takes sophomore U.S. history students to the nation’s capital on a packed two day tour that includes the White House, Holocaust Museum, Capital Hill, Washington Monument, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Arlington National Cemetery, Kennedy Center, National Archives, Library of Congress, Lincoln Memorial, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Newseum, the War Monuments, and the Smithsonian Art and Space Museum.

Henry Sheldon Museum Receives Vermont Arts Council Cultural Facilities Grant

The Henry Sheldon Museum has received a $9460.00 Cultural Facilities Grant from the Vermont Arts Council to make its front entrance wheelchair accessible. The project will complete the Museum’s recent reopening of its historic front door entrance by making it welcoming to all its visitors. Elements will include creating a paved earthen ramp to the south end of the Museum’s front porch, adding historically sensitive wrought iron handrails and fitting the original double doors with automatic door openers.   [ more ]
