Addison County Firefighters Association Annual Meeting Held

   The Addison County Firefighters Association held their annual dinner and awards banquet on Wednesday evening, January 16th, 2008 at the Eagles Club in Ferrisburgh.  The firefighters who represented all of the counties 17-towns were thanked for their service by Governor Jim Douglas.  “For your service to our communities and our safety, we thank you,” the Governor said in brief remarks before the awards ceremony began.   [ more ]

Town Of Middlebury’s New Year Resolutions

   During a recent conversation with Middlebury Town Manager Bill Finger, six important areas were mentioned as significant things to be accomplished during the coming year.  But, according to Finger, “Everything else takes a back seat to the in-town bridge,” which is number one on the list.  As a result of a $9 million monetary pledge by Middlebury College specifically for the bridge this long-planned project will finally become a reality. 2008 will be devoted to the design and engineering phase of the project, with actual construction to begin in 2009.  Four properties need to be acquired, as they are in the direct path of the bridge and access routes.  Steele's Service Center has already been purchased, leaving three to be negotiated.

   Not just the cold and gloom, but also the shut-in misery of it all makes it hard to resist the temptation to add that little something extra at the checkout counter. So, going with the drift of things, we decided to ask several candy-packing Middlebury businesses what leaves the shelves and bins most expeditiously.
